EF makeup/body wash VS store bought.

Contributor: TheSlyFox TheSlyFox 11/26/2011

I was wondering which is better, the Eden fantasys body wash& makeup, or the store bought stuff.. or if they're about the same.

It depends on the store and which specific product you have in mind. I have some of the Cake stuff and it's on par with Philosophy for quality. That's a top brand that you can get in beauty stores. Much better than what you get at VS.

I have the bronzer. It's good quality, but not the same level as what I get in my Bare Escentuals products. I still really like it and would get it again. I've used it most every day since I got it. I like it more than anything I ever got at VS, but not as much as stuff I get from Sephora from higher quality brands.

The eyeshadows I don't have, but I have heard they are Wet N' Wild quality. That would be about the same as VS eyeshadows, if I remember the VS brand eyeshadows correctly, if not a little lower in terms of pigmentation.

It's been a while since I bought anything from VS beauty wise. They have overpriced super market stuff. The pigment quality is usually low and so is the blendability. I never liked the bath products they had either. The scents were overbearing and they didn't moisturize well. At least the cheap ones. The Body By Victoria lotion was nice, as was the perfume. I also liked some of the Angel line.

Aaandd...I'm a moron and just realized the capital VS was "versus." So ignore that nonsense I put in their about VS stuff. Substitute with "Wal-Mart purchased."

I love the Cake stuff, but your post makes me wish Eden carried Philosophy as well. That would be super fabulous.

That would be the BEST! I'm a total convert to the Cake products after trying some of them, but I still love my Philosophy stuff. If Eden had both, I'd never have to deal with my bulk orders from Philosophy to save on shipping again.

I haven't tried the Eden ones and have no intentions of doing so. Because my skin is touchy with washes, I only use certain products from the store that I KNOW won't affect me.

If I remember correctly, I thought I saw someone post that Sephora carries the Cake line of products, or something? I have my first thing on the way from EF right now, from this new body and makeup stuff. It's the highlighting lotion/shimmer stuff. We shall see!

Yes, Sephora carries Cake and Philosophy. I use the green tea "Be Somebody" by Philosophy, which Sephora stopped carrying.

Sephora also doesn't have all the same Cake products as Eden has! Only the Plane Friendly kit is available at Sephora. The rest of the kits Eden carries or you can get at the Cake site. So Eden now officially has a better Cake selection than Sephora. Sephora also doesn't have the perfume.

I can't wait to hear how the shimmer stuff smells and works. I tend not to buy shimmer lotions because all the shimmer just ends up on my hands. X.x I gave up on those in lieu of body glitter highlight sticks. If the Cake one works, I may be tempted back into the lotion version.

I've seen the make up products, but because I'm a die hard Chanel/ MAC girl I probably won't try them, at least, until I see product reviews with someone who shares the same taste.

I'm interested in the washes though! They look like they would smell fabulous, but we shall see.

I think it really depends. EF is carrying a couple new brands and even the same brands seem t vary by product. For instance, the Bella Il Fiore cream I got for review was just fantastic. Way better than your drugstore type.. but those eyeshadow pallets that have popped up? Look like cheap crap.

I'd still have to go to the Philosophy counter or website because I use the skincare too, but I just got the Gingerbread Man shower 3 in 1(to add to my shelf of others that I rotate through), and my go to scent is the Pure Grace. I it.

I agree that it depends on the item and the brand. There is a great book, available in just about all bookstores and libraries, called something like, "Don't go to the beauty counter with me" or "Don't go to the beauty counter without this book". If you ask an employee they will know it right away (at least they do at Border's Books). The writer compares many brands and home made stuff against each other in a variety of price ranges. You'd be surprised how many less expensive items top the expensive stuff.

Depends on what store brand you're using, but it's more than likely better for the prices. It's terribly overpriced here and for little reason as many of them do just as much or LESS than plain store bought. If you're like me and use natural products or those with active ingredients that you can't find in-store, you're going to be sorely disappointed in the brands here.

I am a makeup junkie, so I have been leery of the EF makeup. I prefer the really nice makeup from sephora.

Body products... I am slowly trying out stuff.. I love the Dona shave gel more than anything else I have tried.

I think it depends on each individual product and what you're comparing it to. Somethings I've found are better than the store bought stuff and others I've found are not. Also this regards bath & body, I'm not a makeup person.

1 you cannot smell a product online and it may not always be what it says it is
2 I cannot read the ingredient lists/ they are full of chemicals for the most part
3 I can usually get higher quality for cheaper at Right Aid and CVS
