Drink Recommendations?

Contributor: Mwar Mwar
I just turned 21! Yay! I was given a bit of spending money to start my own alcohol collection. I don't drink very often but when I do I want options. I'm interested in trying new drinks.

What types of alcohol and related fluids would you recommend for someone starting a a litte collection? I want to be able to make a variety of drinks that are fun (perhaps colorful) and taste great! Perhaps something a little less common, but affordable would be awesome too.

What do you recommend?

Happy belated birthday!

It sounds like you're asking about liquor, but let me put in a plug for beer: Craft beer (CRAFT, not the big cheap brands) is absolutely spectacular and so much fun to explore. If you don't already know what kind of beer you like (pale, dark, hoppy, malty, etc), you must must must figure out your types. I'm a stout & porter gal, but I thought I hated beer for the longest time because I was drinking pale crap (actual crap, too, not even good IPAs or whatever). Small-batch brewed is best, and almost everywhere in the country has good locally-brewed and affordable beer (local = fresher = better, usually).

As for liquor... I tend to drink neat, so I'm not much of a help for mixing.

I used to tend bar. Some of the simplest things are the most delicious. My favorite mixed drink was always a washington apple. It's just canadian whiskey (crown royal), apple pucker, and cranberry.

Happy B-day!

I had quit drinking by the time I turned 21 and I just turned 22 and I don't think I've had hardly any alcohol since I was under age! Strange how you grow out of it RIGHT before it's legal. Ha Ha. I don't have many wonderful suggestions. I mostly just stuck with beer or some kind of drink like that. Mike's Hard Lemonade is really good. Also you can get these little things called Suck and Blow. They're cute and colorful and really fun if you're looking for something like that. If I remember correctly I think one person has one end of the tube in their mouth and they blow and the other person sucks. They come in all different flavors. We used to have a fun time with those.

As far as alcohol to collect? Not sure about that. I only drank it. I didn't collect it. I guess a trip to your local liquor store would be a great idea. My mom is a Jack Daniel's fan and she has some OLD and nice looking bottles, never opened that she has on her entertainment center. One was signed by Willie Nelson. She LOVES him If you're looking for something like that that's old and valuable try asking people you know, especially older people who drink.

Woohoo congrats! I'm not a big drinker by any means. I usually drink for the taste. I'd definitely recommend Midori sour. It's a fun, bright green melon flavoured liqueor which is sickly sweet on it's own, but sour mix cuts the sweetness beautifully, so you're left with a nice 'sour mix' sweetie flavour. I love it!

I LOVE Malibu Rum regular, pineapple or banana. I just recently got a new favorite, Tres Leches triple cream liquor mixed with low calorie rootbeer, tastes like a rootbeer float! I like Blue Maui too. Cotton Candy vodka is good too.

Happy birthday! My favorite drink is Captain and coke. Or strawberry daiquiris.

I agree with the beer. I drink craft beer mostly, liquor on occasion. If you are going for liquor, try vodka. It can be drank many different ways. A good quality whiskey, one you sip not mix. But expect to pay at least $50 a fifth.
