I have noticed that most people I know tend to stick with the same breed of dog for a pet that they had growing up.

We had mixed breeds when I was growing up, but as an adult I opted for a purebred. I wouldn't turn away a mixed breed, though; you never know when a stray will decide to make itself at home.

I had a mutt growing up, then a yellow lab, and now a pit mix. I don't like getting the same dog because you can never "replace" the one that passed. I like to move on and try out other breeds.

Maybe it's just my weird circle. LOL
I had a mutt growing up. Currently have a Pomeranian. (always wanted one growing up, if that counts...)

Had a miniature collie and a cocker spaniel growing up now I have a giant mutt. I like getting animals from the shelters.

No dogs in my childhood or current adult life. My mom is allergic to most pet dander.

We've always had mixed dogs, the only purebreds we have had was a Border Collie and a Jack russel.

shepherds are the best

I no longer have dogs but if I did it would be totally different than the kinds of dogs I had as a kid.

I had german shepards while growing up, but now i gave 2 small dogs. My land lord won't let us have anything but small dogs and only the 2.

I had a beagle growing up and a German Sheppard/Collie Mix. Now, I have a Chihuahua - Wiener Dog. I do plan on getting a Beagle and a German Sheppard again. We wanted a small dog for while our children are small.

I love my little chihuahuas. They help with asthma, blood pressure, anxiety, not to mention they are cute!

I have a smaller breed than when I was growing up because of my living situation now. I miss my big doggies.

We had boxers growing up (and I love them to peices), but I prefer having Beagles. I love those little doggies

I had a German shepard collie mix for 15 yrs that I put down about a yr ago (I am 23 yrs old, and he had advanced Alzheimer's disease) and i also have a char pei and mallameux mix. So I may get another German Shepard mix or get a pit bull and boxer mix. I have always been into big dogs.

Same breeds, but now we have birds instead of dogs. But I will always have a thing for Doxies and hope to get another someday.

Growing up we had two GIANT Dobermans who thought they were my nannies, and would protect the heck out of me as a toddler! They were so patient with me, but a stranger sets foot on the property and you can hear them go nuts!
I always had a love for big dogs because of this, and although I did end up getting a smaller dog at one point and medium dog, my TRUE love is for larger dogs like German Shepherds, which I lucked out and got a lovely mix of G.S., but growing up I always just wanted big dogs. Most of them were beautiful and I love the fact that you can use them as a giant pillow during snuggle time! Plus, little dogs tend to be more difficult for me to train, since most of the breeds for tiny dogs are more stubborn (not to mention hyper!)
