Does anyone own a SodaStream or soda maker?

I am a long time soda drinker and purchased a Primo soda machine back in May and love it. The soda tastes better and fresher than the real thing I think, plus you can make soda with whatever you want pretty much.

Primo allows you to get your CO2 refill anywhere, which is much much cheaper than Sodastream, which has a tamper proof proprietary valve, so you are locked into their overpriced refills. I do use their flavor syrups though, because they taste good and are more readily available.

I had a sodastream but wound up giving it to my ex husband in the split. It was great, but ordering the cans for carbonation was a pain in the rear. I did love the ginger ale though, was definitely my favorite! Worth the investment in it!!

I want a soda stream so bad. I was shopping with my mother last week, and we saw one, and I said, "I really want one of these," in that tone that means, "Get me one for Christmas." I am hopeful. I already knew about them and was thinking about getting one.

No, but I keep seeing the commercials on tv and I'm curious. I'm gonna wait till someone I know gets one first and I can try some of the soda.

Ahhhh!!! I've been talking about getting one of these non-stop since October! I am so glad I seen your post. So you do like it? It tastes just like the real thing? Is it actually cheaper to go that route? We've been considering getting it, and just 2 days ago I mentioned wanting one and our 13 year old told my lovie he should get me one for Christmas, but I was really unsure. So now I am glad to have heard a little about it.

So it is cheaper. This is great news. I'm really glad you posted this! I think we'll save up and get one. Plus, they look kinda fun to use.

Kendra,
It is not cheaper if you go the sodastream route. The carbonation refills will cost upwards of $20, because you are locked into their system..if you use a coupon at Bed, Bath Beyond, I think its something like $15. Buy a Primo sparkler instead and you can refill the CO2 at Dicks sporting goods, paintball shops etc for $3-4 a pop. A refill lasts me about 45days and I probably drink 2 liters a day.

I buy the soda mix with coupons too at BBBY and works out to like $3.33/syrup. You will save money doing it that way. You can use SodaStream, Primo or other flavors to make your drinks.

Going Sodastream route, it's about a wash depending how much you drink. I refused to be chained to their CO2 refill scam.

I got a 2nd Primo system on Living Social for $35! About the same cost for a 2nd CO2 canister and extra bottle, which was a great deal.

If you are a serious carbonation lover, there are other options to make your own CO2 for pennies, but it will cost more upfront and you would have to buy a 5lb or more CO2 tank and regulator etc. Most people won't want to bother with that.

I did a lot of research before buying one. IF you have any questions, feel free to ask. Yes, they do taste like the real thing to me. In some cases better.
