I know most people wash their hands after using the restroom, but what about before? This questions for everyone, but I'm especially curious about men since they usually have to touch themselves.

If I've been gardening or something and have really nasty hands, yeah, I'll wash my hands before I do ANYTHING. But otherwise, nope.

When out and about, I wash my hands before and after I visit the loo. Simply because China is not the cleanest place on earth. And since I rather not have any issues with my vagina or any sort of infections... this is one of the only ways I can prevent them when out in public.
At home? After only as my hands are generally always clean.
Plus.. can you imagine pushing a tampon inside of you with dirty fingers? Grody!!!!!

I wash my hands before if I'm going to be something that involves actually touching my lady bits (like inserting/removing a tampon). Otherwise, after is just fine, unless my hands are actually dirty/i've been cooking/I've recently touched something that doesn't belong near the vajazzle.

Same here. Generally I only wash them after.

Just after for me.

Just after, I see no need to wash before.

This reminds me of something I read once. It listed the dirtiest items in ones home, the list included: tv remote, car keys (specifically the alarm/starter), cell phone, wallet, light switch, and keyboard & mouse. Enough to make anyone paranoid

I don't actually *wash* my hands (i.e. soap and water) too often, unless I'm dealing with food. I'm more of a hand sanitizer fan.

If I've been working one something and my hands are dirty, I wash them first so I don't leave dirt everywhere.

I wash my hands first only if they're dirty, and always after. Soap and water.

Sometimes in a public restroom I just grab a piece of paper or napkin and use it as a makeshift glove so I don't actually have to touch anything. Of course I don't use that napkin/paper on myself to wipe, I trash it and use toilet paper. And then I get more paper and use it to flush and touch handles, etc. I don't wash my hands if the place is especially dirty. I use disinfectant gel stuff.

Before if I am really dirty, but always after.

I wash my hands before and after. Mainly because I'm a germa-phobe.
02/17/2011
I only wash after. I don't see the point before.

I wash after I am not a germa-phobe.

Only seldom before. Like If I've been doing something dirty. Gardening, cooking, etc.

Usually I wash both before and after. The only time I only wash just after is if I'm at home and feel like my hands are clean enough. But if I'm out shopping and ESPECIALLY if I'm at work I wash both before and after.

Usually its only after unless my hands are just really dirty.

She: Depending on what I'm doing, I absolutely do. I volunteer in a hospital and have taken classes which involve dissection of whole humans or animal organs. NOT something I want to be transferring around my body! If I'm using a public bathroom, I definitely scrub up. Those things are gross.
He: My god, and I was worried about the dust that collects around my workplace. I always try to figure out how to avoid touching the door handles when getting out of the bathroom. I end up with a wet paper towel I don't know what to do with.

I think there are a couple of misunderstandings here.
One is that a guy needs to 'touch himself'. I often do not - just pull down the waste band - it's already pointed in the right direction!
Second is if I do, I'm only touching skin - much like one hand touching the other vs a female who has to wipe the much more delicate internal vulva.
That's the reason women wipe themselves toward the back - not forward. Men can easily wipe forward without the risk of contamination.
By and large I think women are much more sanitary about this than men - simply because they have to be.

I generally only wash my hands after I potty, but sometimes my hands feel dirty for no apparent reason, so I'll wash them then beforehand.
