I certainly try to. The market that I go to lets you enter little contests to win gift baskets each time you use cloth bags so I'm always motivated to bring them.

Yes, usually hand sewn quilt pattern ones.
07/08/2012
Most of the time.

We have four rather large fabric bags we got from JoAnn Fabrics, they usually hold everything the wife gets for a week. We still get a few plastic bags now and then for use in the bathroom trash can and to hold plastic bottles for recycling.

Unfortunately no, we just use plastic bags, but we use those plastic bags for trash afterwards.

I was using my bags until they were shrunk in the wash <.< I'll probably invest in some more

Most of the time, unless it's an unexpected shopping trip - they charge extra for plastic bags over here.

Nope.

I don't, but I need to start. I do reuse the disposable plastic shopping bags, though. Mostly I use them to clean out the cat litter box or I use them for lunch bags when I take food from home to work. (Yes, I know I should also start using a reusable lunch box too!)

All the time. It's nice being able to shove everything in there and not worry about a plastic bag breaking.
07/08/2012
Yep, it keeps my groceries from sliding around.
07/09/2012
yes.
However the challenge is in remembering to take them with me

Nope. I'm guilty. I do not have the time to drag a bunch of cloth bags in and out of the car and store every time I go. I use the plastic bags. However, I recycle and reuse the plastic ones. Most of them go to my "plarn" otherwise known as plastic yarn. I find it somewhat therapuetic to make plarn. Well you don't make it, but you tie it all together, cut it up and such. I don't even use plarn. I don't crochet and haven't found other uses for the amount of plarn I have. I was actually looking for people to give it away to just yesterday. I don't have time to lug around those cloth bags so I just do what I can with the reusing and recycling.

When I remember, I definitely try to!

No, but only because I'm still at home and don't do the major grocery shopping. As soon as I get a place with my fiance I probably will use the re-usable bags. They just hold SO much more than a plastic bag and that means you can carry more into the house and make less trips back to the car.

I mostly use cloth, but if I use plastic I reuse them
07/09/2012
I tried to a couple of times but kept getting dirty looks from the cashier because I was making her job more difficult. There's only one place to really grocery shop around here and all the cashiers there are awful people. I really don't want all the drama associated with some of these people. I'll probably start using them again when I move and can choose to shop elsewhere.

We certainly do, and at least half of them are EF bags. (my free gift of choice when there's nothing I'd rather get, my mom loves them)
=^.^=
They're so cute and durable they work wonders in place of those flimsy plastic store bags.

Yes. I clean them every few uses and put them back in the car. I always feel guilty when I have forgotten my cloth bags and have to ask for paper.

We got these huge and strong bags from Aldi. They do the job. I can do the shopping for a hungry family of four with two of these bags and one or two smaller ones.

I never remember to take them. But I do reuse the plastic ones, though, so I feel a bit less guilty. AND I did so many other Earth-friendly things that I think I'm OK (cloth diapering, natural cleaning, etc.)

So I don't forget them I put them back in the car as soon as I put the groceries away. It takes no time at all. I grab my purse when I get out of the car. How much more time would a couple of cloth bags take? Two seconds. I always feel guilty when I have forgotten my cloth bags and have to ask for paper.
I don't like to use plastic grocery bags. Our local Jewel has a bin for "recycling" but I know a lot of people who work there and they said, "We don't recycle them. We take them out of the bin and put them in the dumpster. It's just to make people feel better that we even have the "recycling" bin at the door." The ONLY thing I ever let them use plastic bags for is raw chicken. They always start bagging, like 3 things to a plastic bag, then I give them my bags. They usually try to just put the plastic bags into the cloth. Now, WHO is that helping. I make it clear I use the cloth bags to AVOID plastic. Then, if they don't do it, I take my stuff out of the plastic and toss the plastic bags back on the counter.
You'd think most of the checkers and baggers would get it by now! Some of them do, and they ask. But, a few of them are just.... lazy and don't care.

Ugh...they do that to me all the time when I go to Dollar Tree, you'd think stores would want to save the cost of the plastic bags if someone handed them reusable bags instead.
