Do you think weed should be legal?

I'm really pretty indifferent to marijuana, but as far as I'm concerned there is good reason (taxable dollars) to legalize and regulate its sale.

I don't even smoke and I think it should be legalized. Alcohol is waaaayyy worse in my opinion, but people can drink as they please. So why not pot?
04/23/2013
I agree with both of you. I don't smoke, but there is no reason why it shouldn't be legal.
04/23/2013
I don't like smoking it, but eating is a different story. I think it should be legal and taxed so we can slowly smoke and eat our country out of a HUGE debt.
04/23/2013
To be honest, I don't really care. But I do care if I need surgery and my doctor has just gone out for a smoke. Or my pilot just smoked before a flight. Legalise it, but create some rules please.
04/23/2013
If it's legal it can be regulated and drug dealers/cartel can be outed by the free market. Research on it will become more accepted. Personal amounts definitely should be legal, though maybe not distributable amounts. I think it should be opened up for serious debate, at least.
04/23/2013
People can eat, drink, and smoke far worse things legally. May as well tax it.
04/23/2013
I think it should be legal !
04/23/2013
I don't really see it as much different than than alcohol or tobacco, plus it has legitimate medical applications. Legalize it.
04/23/2013
I would never use it but I think it should be legal
04/23/2013
It results in a lot of senseless imprisonment for non-violent offenders. I'm an attorney and staunchly pro-legalization.
Also, I think drug laws especially are enforced selectively against people of less-educated and less-empowered class backgrounds. You don't see wealthy people in jail for this.

I think that it should be legalized but I don't smoke it myself.
04/23/2013
legal
04/23/2013
Definitely.
04/23/2013
Illegal.
04/23/2013
Only legal for medical purpose, and illegal for recreational use.
04/23/2013
Don't care.. i don't smoke.
04/24/2013
Legalize it everywhere, for every purpose. Let people grow their own.

Honestly, even though I quit smoking weed, I still have friends and family who do smoke it, and I'm not bothered by it one, tiny, bit. As long as you can control yourself, as with all addictive things, I think that it isn't as harmful as people are lead to believe. However, that said, Weed can be very addictive, and some people just can't control the urges.

So, in the grand scheme of things, yes I think it should be legalized, but that there should be limits to how much you can buy per year.

Since "weed" can only be legalized for recreational and medical use, i say 100% legalize it for medical use and decriminalize it put regulations on recreational use so there are penalties for abuse like we do with alcohol.
Industrial hemp needs to be legalized as well, but people usually see that and assume its a ploy to make weed legal, where they are to different plant strains, and industrialized hemp you cant some or get high from as it has less than a 3% TCH content.

this is a really god point, and its sad to see that marginalized groups of people often from gentrified areas are the ones getting jailed on drug charges and other non-violate crimes. It costing our country more money to jail these people, rather than decimalized and set regulations for recreational use of substances like marijuana, and much of the dept crisis could be solved by legalizing/using industrial hemp since its a resource that can be used for a very wide variety of things - such as gas, building materials, clothing, etc.

I live something like straight edge but I'm 100% pro legalization or a legal equalization to alcohol.
There were some psychologists who were discussing a something like a drivers-license for drugs.
After passing a certain test and having lessons about brain and substances you may be free to buy some drugs in certain legal limits.
I really support this idea as well. There are so many helpful facts, e.g. barbiturates will end a bad acid trip immediately.

I am just curious, for those of you that oppose legalization... what is your opinion on similar items that are currently legal? Like Alcohol and Tobacco?

I agree, there has to be rules to everything. In the case of the pilot, that pilot can't have any alcohol in his system either, and I think weed should be treated like alcohol. There are pros and cons to legalizing it. There really isn't a way to know if someone is "over the limit" and if the pilot smoked on his day off, the weed would be in his system for up to 30 days. I do think our country could use the tax dollars off of it though. Plus it would keep petty misdemeanor offenders out of jail for possession. There are people in county jails, and prisons for a little bit of pot, and the price of living in prison is crazy compared to life in the free world. But the difference in the two is, the people in prison don't pay out of their pocket.

Pilots are not allowed to use a LOT of prescription and even over the counter drugs. It's against the law for a commercial pilot to pilot a plane with many medications in his systems, in some cases even something like antihistamines. Most airlines drug and alcohol test their pilots frequently. If you are a pilot, or a bus driver or a limo driver, you'd have to make the choice to either smoke, or never smoke and work your profession. It's the same with many professions.

I say legalize it and tax it. Liquor does a lot more damage than pot and making liquor illegal only helped organized crime make millions and branch out into other enterprises in the 1920s.
There is no good reason not to simply legalize it. Plus allow insurance companies to foot the bill when people need it for medication purposes.

Might as well with so many states legalizing it in one form
or another...
or another...
