Do you think of EF as a family?

Contributor: Miss Anonymous Miss Anonymous
I'm curious to see if I'm the only one.

Sometimes when I see a new member, I want to write "Welcome to the EF family" I never do because I don't know if people think of it the same way. I can say I have a couple off people who know more about me then my family do. I know one maybe two people who know secrets about me that my boyfriend doesn't even know. So I've grown to think of this as a family. Everyone is so kind to eachother and looks out for one another. So? What do you guys think?

Not really family per say, more like very good BFF's.

Something strange about having an online orgy with family.

I feel like so many of y'all are extended family to me. Some I write to when I see they're down or if I know they're busy. Others I will write to if I enjoy a review or just wanna say hi.

I've only been here a month but I really feel like I love the people here - even if we are such a diverse group in our political, religious and sexual beliefs.

I love the tolerance level I feel here (as a "prude").

As a "non-prude", I totally feel you on the tolerance level! Sometimes it's hard, in the real world---you feel judged by the people who are different from you.

But not on Eden! Here it seems like everybody's always glad to hear from everyone else, no matter what our background and interests are.

Seriously, even families aren't this tolerant!

No, ts defiantly not family to me in any sense of the definition. However, this is the best online community I have ever found that's for sure.

No. But as a person who lives on the internet, I don't really think of anyone besides my family as my family.

I think fondly of this community and a number of members, and I always appreciate my time on the forum, but not a family for me.

I have a pet peeve about people calling everything "family." I've had the my-guild-in-a-video-(g ame) family. The people-who-like-the-(s ame)-band-I-do family. Now the sex-toy-discussion family?

I certainly enjoy having an open-minded & informative bunch of people to talk to, but... I don't really think of anything as family besides my actual one & a couple very close friends.

EDIT: Apparently the forums don't like my excessively-hyphenated -phrases.

I put "other" -- because while I don't consider the EF people "family" (sorry, guys <3), I do consider a specific member here "family", because she got me into the community (Hi, Kkay <3), and she is very much so like my little sister.

I really enjoy the community - but family? No not for me.

I don't think of EF as my family, but I think the community here is very familial. I use the term 'family' in reference to all the members frequently. I do this with a lot of online communities that I belong to.

Consider this:

How many people in this community would you send money to when they can't cover a bill? Or how many of them would you babysit their children for in times of emergency? What would you be willing to do without so someone else could have instead? And on the flipside of that, how many would do the same for you?

Leaning on someone or offering an ear for them to bend is not the same thing as family. Family is there no matter what, regardless of how much they like you or what sacrifices they would have to make in order to make sure you had the bare minimum in life. Well, good family, that is.

So sure, there is potential for people to eventually become like family to someone, but I think we're more just a group of really good people who share an interest in good sex and great orgasms and the love of toys, and close friendships spring from that.

I'm not trying to downplay the community feeling around here, because it is by far the best forum community I have ever been a part of. But, family is a very strong word. Very strong.

Yes & No...

When I joined I had high hopes of meeting people & making friends with people who had the same interests as I do. But after a few months and not "meeting" anyone on a closer level I gave up that hope. I'm a stay at home mom with lots of time to kill... I guess my "Sex toy loving friend" never came along to chat & gossip about sex & whatever. So the "family" aspect I thought could be here vanished & it became more like a fun hobby to fill time.. Shit it would be nice to meet someone here who was local to make friends with who has the same love of toys & is as out there & open as I am lol... But these people in NC don't seem to be as out there as where I'm from

I agree.

I feel like this is more of a family because we help each other out and listen to each other's problems.

I haven't really thought of it that way to be honest, but I can see how it'd feel that way. Most people here are pretty darn friendly and helpful!

Really depends how you define family, but I have, after a few months, come to recognize the posts of a few people and while not "family" in the real sense, or even anyone I could go to for anything other then moral support on a narrow range of issues, I would say they are my "EF" FRIENDS.
