Just had this conversation with someone recently. X-) I had to look it up, because couldn't remember the spelling on my crayons from school.

Gray is the American English spelling.
Grey is the British English spelling.

I was taught that in England it is spelled grey and in America is spelled gray. It helps keep the two spelling options straight in my head!
