Do you save up change and cash it in?

Contributor: Anne Anne
I have a piggy bank and once it's full, I take it into coinstar and get loads of money. I even remember cleaning out my boyfriend's old room at his parent's house, and we found $120 worth of change. It was nuts! If you do save up your change, what's the most you've cashed in?

Don't remember the specific amounts. My husband likes to dump change inside a drawer, and I'll take them to coinstar when the pile gets big.

We save all of our change. A while back we fell on hard time when my husband hurt his knee and couldn't work. We cashed in over $400 worth of change that we'd been saving over the previous year or so. It was surprising!

Yes, I usually save it and then let the kids take it to the coin counter at the store.

I only use plastic, so I never have change.

Yes. I'm doing it tomorrow, in fact, so I can make my car payment.

I used to do it more often but I still do so every once in a while. I think the most was $50 or $60.

My girlfriend and I save change (in a really cute piggybank her nephews got her that looks like our siamese cat!). Last summer we got $95 which covered tickets to an amusement park we went to during vacation.

I do. I don't take them to a coin star though. I roll my own coins. Coin star takes about 8-9% out. So Every $100 in coins they take out $8-9. You can go to the dollar store and get a bag of coin rolls for a $1 or your bank might give some to you.

I use too but with the way the economy is these days I have a difficult time saving change.

It goes to laundry and lottery tickets. I am not organized enough to save it.

I do--then cash it in either when I am broke or for a holiday or special occasion. The most I had was when I was waitressing. I would put the change in a huge water jug after work. I had $1200+ when I cashed it in....you should have seen the teller's face, lol!!! Now it is around $100 when I take it in.

I keep a little change jar next to my desk and we have a gumball machine/bank that has some change in it. I never cash it in because of the fees. Instead, I just use it on small purchases like stamps and drinks out of the vending machines at work. I never have more than a few dollars worth of change sitting around.

I save the quarters, which end up going towards laundry, and the rest just gets used or haphazardly scattered around the apartment.

We've never cashed it in, but any spare change goes into the kids' piggy banks.

I save my change, but the last few years I haven't been able to save as much change since I use my credit and debit cards more. I think last time I cashed in it was around $140. I just take it to the bank when I want to cash it in and deposit it in my savings. The coin counters around here charge a fee and the bank doesn't and I think it's silly to have topay a fee for it.
