We don't have that here, but a lot of our "out of town" family and friends do. We wonder how common this is?
Do you live in an area where you have to sort your trash for recycling?

Do you mean sorting between different TYPES of recyclables (metal, glass, etc?) Or just sorting recycled from regular trash? We of course separate out our recyclables, but all materials are together. I actually distrust the local recycling a lot because I don't know how they do it. In WA where I used to live, all recycling had to be separated. Ohio pretty much sucks in terms of environmental-friendli ness. Oh well.

We don't have a recycling service here. There's one, but you have to pay for it. I did for a while, but the cost got to be too high.

We are not required to, but our city provides every residence with 1 trash can and 1 recycle bin. We have to put our trash in those recepticles only. Most people here do recycle. It would be hard to get everthing to fit without sorting out all the recyclable stuff.

Recycling and Trash. That's the two.
12/12/2012
Yep, but it's into recycling and trash, not by type of recycling
12/12/2012
and i'll happily sort. after hearing about the garbage island in the pacific ocean, seems a small price to pay.

We are not required to sort our trash and recyclables.

Ours is sorted by trash, paper recycling, glass/plastic/metal recycling.
12/13/2012
Trash in one bin, and then whatever recycling in the other bin.
12/13/2012
Yes we do. Have it in my area for close to 15 years.
12/13/2012
Yes, we have a brown bin for trash and a blue bin for recycling.
12/13/2012
We recycle...but don't have to "sort" it. All in one bin
12/13/2012
We don't have to sort our trash for recycling where I live.

I used to when I lived in a small town, the cardboard had to be separated from the plastic etc or they would leave it at the curb with a note. Now in a big city it's not the case.

We don't HAVE to sort it, but we do anyway. Now, if you take recycling to the local dump, you have to sort the plastic from the metal and such.
12/13/2012
We don't. We should separate it, but we don't.
12/13/2012
I have no clue, haha. Oops
12/13/2012
We sort the trash into one bin and the recycling into another bin.
12/13/2012
Definitely separate for recycling
12/13/2012
We do separate trash for recycling.

I don't look at it as a "have to do". I'm grateful that we have recycling and it's no trouble at all as far as I'm concerned.

We have our trash and then we sort our recyclables.

We have to sort trash, recyclables and compostables. The city provides separate trash cans for everything. The trash can for recyclables has two compartments: one for bottles/cans and one for paper products.
Fast food restaurants (including places like Starbucks) have separate trash cans for recyclables and compostables. Most public sidewalk trash cans have a separate compartment for bottles/cans.

I don't understand the concept of paying to recycle. I've seen people get paid for bottles, cans, paper and cardboard.

We just have a separate bin we put all recyclables in.
03/02/2013
Haha 'trash'
We separate rubbish.
We separate rubbish.
03/06/2013
We do separate it!
03/06/2013
We separate recycling from trash and then from there we have to keep the glass/plastics/metal together while the paper/cardboard is put into another bag.
