Yep, I had to learn before I could drive by myself
Mrs Scotch's father made her change the tire (on her own) before he would take her to get her license. Mr can change one as well, as long as the lug nuts aren't rusted on...long story...involves college...a beer bong...and a Jonathon Brandmeier concert.
Oh, definitely!! And the oil, a tune up, chains, carb rebuild, vacuum line redo, and pretty much anything you can do on a 350 Chevy from the old school--1971. My truck, lol!!
I just read where less then 1/4 of college students had a clue how to change the tire in their own cars anymore.
Do you?
Yep my dad made sure I could change a tire, oil, a lot of thing in order to get a car lol. I am glad he did that is the one thing he did that was right by me.
Yes it's one of the few things I can do on a car. I have gotten good at changing tires over time, my wife seems to have a knack about getting flats. But we also have AAA for when I'm out of town on business and something goes wrong for her.
Yes, from back in the days when I had to put snow tires on every winter and take them off in the spring living up North. Thank god for all season tires.

Yes, I've changed a few in my time. It was a lot easier to change a tire on the side of the road before it became the norm for them to be tightened with an air gun.
I remember being on the side of a not-so-busy road. I'd been jumping up and down on the damn lug wrench for a while and only managed to loosen three of the five lug nuts when a passerby pulled over to lend a hand. I think he initially thought I must be weaker than I looked but, when it took him another five minutes or so to loosen the last two lug nuts, he said he couldn't believe I managed to get the first three loosened by myself.
After asking him for his address and the name of his favorite beer, I was able to say "thanks" with a case. Gosh, that was a looooooong time ago!
I'm the person who changes other people's tires on the highway.
(To be nice, not as a job, though it goes somewhat with my job but that is another story.)
auto club and cell phone! i think everybody should know how though. but reality is if i don't have the physical strength to get the lug nuts off what's the point. my car does have the instructions printed with diagrams with the spare and jack. so i would give it a try if i had to. i feel safer calling someone. the last time i had a flat i was on a bridge on a highway. not a safe situation to deal with alone..
