Do you have Food Rituals?

Contributor: Mwar Mwar
Do you have certain things you MUST do to food or certain types of food? For example, I have to eat soup like so: vegetables, large pieces of meat, and then broth until it is level with the noodles. The I will eat the noodles and small pieces of meat.

I have a few other ones that I'm trying to correct. My rituals are not correlated with restricting what I eat. I just like doing them in a certain way if that makes sense.

Am I mental? Or do you guys have some rituals you do with certain foods? It could be something simple like saving the blue M&Ms for last of the eating around the crust of the sandwich for an awesome middle bite (I do that one too.) .

Maybe some habits, but no particular way that I have to eat or prepare my food.

I know at least two people who can't have anything on their plate touch. They also tend to eat one item at a time and in a specific order.

Don't make me think too hard about this because I will discover more things about myself that are odd! Mwar, you had to know I would answer, "yes" to this!

For one, when I eat a BLT or any kind of layered sandwich, I like to rearrange the fillings so that I get some in each bite! This is also true of lots of different mixed ingredient dishes. For example, I just ate cottage cheese with strawberries & walnuts. Of course, I had to make sure I got all three in each bite! I also have to have butter, etc., evenly spread across the entire surface of toast or whatever.

Eating a Reese's peanut butter cup: I often, but not always, eat around the outside first, then savor the peanut butter center. This is one where I break trend. I also do fine eating soup if I don't get the exact same mouthful every time, so I'm not completely mental about it.

I guess most of the rituals I have for food center around my usual predilection for having some of everything in each bite, at least that's all I can think of for now. I don't have to have things this way, but, if I have a chance to arrange my food, I will, such as at home, (I won't do anything obvious if I'm out to eat).

I want certain drinks with certain foods and I eat noodle soup dishes in a certain order - usually meat, a little broth, noodles, broth.

When I'm having meat and vegetable soup, I tend to finish up the chunky potato and carrot, before eating the rest of the ingredients.

I don't personally, but one of my sons (5 years old) does. He counts everything, takes a bite, and then counts again. He's got anxiety disorders, and I'm not really for sure why, but we handle it the best we can.

It's not really a ritual but something that was stuck in our heads when we were kids. I was always made to eat my veggies first then the side item and to eat meat last. Then don't feel up on your drink because it will make you full fast. I have tried to break this so bad, but I seem to can't.

It's the only one I can think of...

I separate the meringue top from the lemon filling of a slice of lemon meringue pie. I eat the lemon filling and the crust first. Than I eat the meringue.

I have OCD, so yeah, I've got a few. I don't like mixing foods, I have to eat them individually, & I usually have a specific order I'll eat things in. I also like for things to be cut a certain way.

Nope. Serve it. We eat it. Only ritual is to say "Thank you" and "more Please".

I used to when I was sick with an eating disorder, but I really don't anymore. I don't think everyone with food rituals has an eating disorder, but for me they were related
