I still wonder how come people just keep on stuffing themselves with the weirdest things while they could just walk into a health store after browsing online, and get some harmless natural solutions instead!
Do you have any serious health issues because of taking a drug or more the doctor prescribed for you?

Do you have any serious health problems because of pharmaceutical drugs?

Like let's say those smoking drugs... That you will be able to give up smoking after a while... And it has side effects sooooooooooooooooooo serious that I would rather be smoking the weirdest stuff for the rest of my life than taking those drugs!!! (And there are at least three herbs you can use without ANY risks to give up smoking easily!!!)

I was prescribed medication for 21 days and it almost made my muscles go numb... literally I could have been in a wheel chair for who knows how long, if not forever. I was the one of thousands that they talk about in the pamphlet. It was the scariest thing of my life.

Its funny, because I always think about this when I see those commercials on tv for a new drug. "Cure your allergies-but watch out for bleeding ulcers, etc etc and even death in some cases"....HA! lol.

The Side effects are way worse than the problem you're trying to cure to start with! yikes!

Nope... hasn't happened to me

I don't, but that's because I don't take pharmaceuticals at all. I think they have worse side effects than what ailment I could have. I worked in the alternative emdicine industry for 5 years so I buy herbs, vitamins-minerals, homeopathic remedies, and supplements.

I do.
It's called constant mydriasis, my pupil is always slightly more dilatated than it should because I took amytriptiline at too young of an age. It makes me really sensitive to lights. And guess what? The medication was prescribed to me 5 times.. and none of those time, it worked well on me.
Also, if you weren't talking about permanent side effects, I tested around 30 kinds of pills from age 14 to age 19, and most of them were rough on me. Cymbalta, for exemple, made me vomit for 5 hours straight. Cesamet made me completely stupid. Lyrica made me unable to express my thoughts in a comprehensible manner. Cyclobenzaprine made me sleep for 3 days straight. And I could go on and on again... You can't cure fibromyalgia that easily.
Since opiates get me a good quality of life, and I can do most things with them, I think the only "natural remedy" I should take is opium. It's still illegal huh? :/

My hubby was prescribed every single one of these drugs. He refuses to take them because of what he read about them. And because after he had a car accident where he broke his neck and some other injuries they loaded him up on pain medications and Neurontin. The pain medication eat a hole in his intestine. If he goes to the Dr they try giving his all these strange medications. If you read about them they have strange side effects. Like could alter your mind permanently, you should not father/mother children after taking the medication, and many more things. He suffers with the pain and sticks to smoking marijuana because it works and doesn't have side effects.

Pain medications are also slowly killing my mother in law's liver. The Tylenol (additive to her pain meds) also put her in a coma for over 2 weeks. We thought she was going to die.
I personally have never been on anything other than birth control for very long. I refuse to take Advil when I have a headache even.

What drug can you not "mother or father a child after taking?" I know my US Pharmacopeia, and I have yet to see this one.

Prescription drugs are serious things. But, some people can't live without them. Sadly, some people don't feel they "got their money's worth" if they don't leave the Dr.s office with a prescription.
As for me, my migraines are so severe, I have tried virtually every form of "natural remedy" and they all failed and cost me thousands and thousands of dollars. Of course, about 50 different pharmaceuticals failed, too. We finally hit on a combo that works, most of the time, and keeps about 60=75% of the pain muted. It's the best we can do. I don't like taking half dozen different meds every day, but I couldn't function without them. (If ANYONE suggests "willow bark" "feverfew" "Chiropractic&quo t; or "Acupuncture" ; (all of which I have used, to no avail) to me, I will personally find you and.... never mind.... )
Some of us don't have the choice but to take prescription drugs. Some people are lucky. My father hasn't taken a prescription drug in over 30 years. He's been blessed with very good health, that and a fear of doctors. (Although he always claims to be ill. Weird.)
But, to answer, no, I have no lasting effects from the 150+ prescription drugs I have taken in my life. Everyone will have side effects from time to time, but I've taken more than my share of prescribed drugs and I have no lasting effects from any of them. The migraines started when I was a child, and then I had taken nothing but vitamins and baby aspirin.

Other. Had serious side effects from a couple drugs, but no lasting effects noticeable.

My boyfriend was recently in the hospital for an extended period of time. It turns out there were giving him a drug through an IV he was allergic to. It was ridiculous!

I don't that I know of. I take alot of meds, but don't know if any of them caused any of my issues....

I haven't had any serious health issues from drugs (well...except for the systemic candidiasis I suspect I have from repeated antibiotic courses and poor diet in childhood), but apparently SNRI's do NOT like me. On both Effexor and Cymbalta, I got this weird "out of body" feeling that made my normal anxiety and panic look like a walk in the park. :-(

Wow, lots of people don't know about such things, amazing, I didn't expect such results! :S

Each time I started a new anti-seizure med as a kid, I would have really bad reactions (ranging from your typical not feeling well to being a completely different, uncontrollable kid) until we adjusted the levels. I did know some epileptics, though, who wrestled with the idea of whether being medicated or having seizures were the worse lot: what meds did work did so poorly or had such horrific side effects that they essentially still had no life.
I've always joked about having the memory capacity of an 87 year old after head trauma. I can't remember anything, and I just chalk it up to an aspect of me. But a recent conversation about epilepsy with a stranger sent me researching anti-seizure meds and long-term memory loss. Turns out many of the meds I was on for years have been linked to permanent memory loss. I can't say for sure that that happened to me, but I've been trying brain exercises for awhile now and have seen no improvement.

Good. I'm glad you don't need to. Some of us have disorders that need medication. I wish I didn't, but if I tried to go med-free I would be a basket case. Been there, done that.

The most severe things I've gotten from medications were mental health issues, vomiting for days, and an allergic rash that didn't go away for months. Nothing permanent though. I've been lucky.

he now has random seizures and will be on an antiseizure medication for the rest of this life.

No I haven't and generally I would prefer a natural remedy to a pharmaceutical one. However, people should be aware that there can still be serious complications from taking incorrect dosages etc of natural supplements. You should still consult a homeopath or doctor before taking any new drug or supplement.

I was given Xanax for anxiety that I never felt I truly had, yet my doctor insisted on me taking it. Anyhow, I got addicted to it because I would take it and it didn't feel like it was working. Six when that happened I would have panic attacks, with no choice but to take more. Now I have been taken off of it and the panic attacks haven't stopped and I have acne like I was 17 again.
