In general I like going to the library, but I don't like my university library. It's got a lot of plants and has a weird funk lol.
Do you go to the Library?

I love the library! When I was a teen I was there every day with a new book.

I love the library - my parents got me my own library card before I could read, it has actual teething marks on it from my infancy, no joke. Sadly, my local library is closed for renovations at the moment. =(

I dont get to go very often. the wife takes the kids there about ever 2 weeks to get books. I just buy mine from the big used book store in town or have the wife pick them up at the library for me. I just dont have enough time in the day to spend in the library.

We have not gone into a library in years, other then to donate books. I seriously wonder if they will be around in a generation. When every book on earth can be instantly accessed on a cheap tablet, exactly how much sense will it make to spend money on buildings, staff, maintenance and the housing of thousands of texts...all of which constitute a microfragment of the books out there?

Think about this, one financial expert I heard spoke about being able to GIVE every child in the USA a tablet reader and free access for FAR under the cost of building and maintaining new libraries, and meanwhile, a library might have one or two copies of a book or movie, where those with electronic access can have a MILLION people reading the same book at once.
Sorry....Libraries seem to be entering the same place as an abacus in the world of computers.
HOWEVER, I will say I am impressed and amazed by the number of people here...probably younger in age then me, who responded they "love going to the library"....so who knows, maybe there is still some special place for it in society????

Our library is very outdated, I find what I can online or borrow.

I only go if there is something I need to check out.

I use to go to the library but,I don't go anymore because the books are so dirty.

I love going, but I hardly go anymore because it's too far away and I'm too weak and have no time to read because life is crazy..

Can you use your card in a neighboring library? In IL we have a sharing plan, and you can use any library in the state with your local card.

I'm willing to bet the town next to yours has a sharing plan, too.
I hate to see anyone go without books.

Most have "Home Bound" programs, where they will bring you books to your home when you are sick.
I used the Home Bound program when I was on bedrest with my last pregnancy. Once a month, I would talk to a girl who ran the program, she asks what I like and if I have any special requests, then she goes through the stacks while I'm on the phone with her and makes recommendations based on what my kids and I liked. Then that day or the next she shows up with several dozen books. A month later, we do it again, and she would pick up the old books and bring us new ones.
It was amazing! It saved my life during that pregnancy.

It's okay. I'd rather buy new at a bookstore.

We have a great library here, and I love going there. I don't get the chance to go nearly often enough.

I can't check anything out until I pay my late fines tho :o(

i the library!!

No we don't use the library - they are building a huge new $200 million 'palace' in downtown san diego. a huge waste of taxpayer money considering the very few who are close enough to have access are subsidized by most of us who are too far away to use it.

I used to love going to the library when I was a teenager. Around here though the libraries are really small and by the time I graduated high school I was buying most of my books online because I'd read most of the books in my interest group at the local and school libraries.
I recently moved and have found the libraries in my current area to be even smaller than the ones in my old town. :/
I just buy off of Amazon now.

I haven't been in so long because of my dang kindle, but I need to start going again. I miss the library.

Who needs the library, when there is a lot of information on the internet?
08/25/2012
When I was younger, I would spend hours at the local library. Sadly, availability of reference materials via the Internet and ebooks sadly libraries obsolete from an informational viewpoint.
