I'm wondering how much paid time off other jobs are currently offering. I'm guessing this is going to be geared mainly to those that work full-time, but if you get PTO and you're part-time, please chime in as well! Also, do you work in the public sector or for a private company? Union? And is your paid time off all lumped together in a pool or is it broken down?
Do you get paid time off? How much?

I'll answer first since I asked I work for a private company that I've been with for 7 years in October. I currently get 3 weeks of paid vacation, 3 sick days, and 2 personal days. I know this is a lot for a private, non-union company, but my union shop boyfriend who works for a HUGE coporation actually gets less. Although in all fairness, he's only got 4 years in at his current company so he will eventually have more. I also prefer companies where I have a 'pool' of days, simply because I never use my personal days so they just go to waste.

I don't get any time off for Christmas, and any of the traditional North American holidays that most school teachers enjoy.
I do get usually six to eight weeks off in January/February-ish depending on the lunar calendar with either full pay or partial pay for Chinese Spring Festival (Chinese New Years).
I then get a week off May 1st for Labour day.
Then somewhere in the late Spring I get another three days off for QingMing and the Dragon Boat Festival.
In September, I get a further three days off for Mid-Autumn Festival/Moon Harvest festival.
Then October 1st another weekish off for National Day which is basically modern China's birthday.
And all these with pay. Oh yeah. Kind of sucks having so much time off, but it gives me time to catch up on my lesson planning and marking!!!

I get 3 weeks a year.
THey also pay you for unused sick days at the end of the year, which is usually another 2 weeks of pay, just for not being sick.

I don't get any, If I'm sick I just don't make any money which is very stressful. One of the main reasons why I'm going back to school is so I can have a job where I can get some paid time off and other benefits.

I used to have that at a company I worked for and I loved it! Nothing I have now carries over but I still can't complain.

It is very nice, the extra is added to the last paycheck of the year, so it goes toward Christmas gifts.

I get 3 days each year that are PTO. I'm in the union at work and didn't realize I had them. So at a certain point in time if you don't use them then my boss gets to pick and choose when to use them So I got to use them but not when I wanted to. But I got paid either way so its all good.

5 days of paid vacation, and 24 hours of paid sick time (which we can use like vacation time...not sure why they are called different things, but you have to be with the company a certain amount of months to get any vacation time, but everyone, even PT, gets sick time).

I get 20 days. That is vacation, sick and personal. Private company and there 13 years.

At my last job. I was there 10 years. I got 15 vacation days, 10 sick days, and 2 personal days. The sick days was the only thing that rolled over up to 20. I hardly ever got sick so that was always at its max. One of my co-workers husband was battling cancer. We all gave her a few days so she could tend to him.
