Do you flag threads, posts, comments, etc. often?

Contributor: Nazaress Nazaress
When I see a thread that is obviously spam, I do not hesitate to flag it. I get tired of seeing crappy threads filling up the forums asking stupid "questions" or posting things better left in the comments section of the product page like, "How big is this?" or "I like this" (only in horrible English, of course). I'm not quick to flag, however. I don't flag things that don't need to be flagged. But I don't just ignore it if it's a spam thread or the like. This is ESPECIALLY true if they've posted multiple spam threads. My threads may be stupid half the time, too, but that's not because they're spam. I'm just uncreative.

So, are you a flagger? Do you flag some things and not others when they should be? Do you tend to ignore spam and not flag it? What do you do?

I've yet to flag anything. Most of the time I just let spam threads sink to the bottom of the forum where they can be forgotten about.

The only reason I might flag something is if it's blatantly hurtful, offensive, or actively aggressive towards others. And I don't do it if there's already a flag there.

I haven't flagged anything yet. I would flag something if it was offensive. I've thought about starting to flag obvious spam because it's getting really bad lately.

Not really I think I flagged 2 or 3 very clear spam threads and maybe one or two offensive post in all the time I been here.

I flag things only when it's blatantly abuse of the system (like someone's posting MULTIPLE identical threads/comments/whate vers or when someone is making comments that are inappropriate.

I feel that we're all adults, so unless someone has truly crossed the line, we should be grown enough to play amongst ourselves nicely in the sandbox.

I'm new here, what counts as a spam thread? Are they different from the posts that do not seem to be related to EF at all?

Spam would be more like someone posting a thread that consists of "kjhakdjhasdk" or someone posting the same exact thread several times in a row.

Topics that are unrelated to EF are just offtopic.

Ok! Thank you! In that case, I have never flagged a post!

Not often, no. Just obvious bots and if something is truly outrageously offensive (I think that was only once).

I've only flagged a few things - not spam, just things which were intentionally offensive.

Whoops! I mean. No. I don't flag things. People who speak with the "chat speak" I just skip their posts as trying to figure it all out gives me more of a headache.

I've never flagged any point-farmers, but I did bite my tongue really hard not to give them sarcastic replies! As for the weirdo(s) that posted crazy chain postings, others have flagged those posts long before I even came across them.

I've never flagged anything. I was wondering what exactly does happen when you flag a thread or a post? Does EF see this and actually do anything about it?

I think I may have flagged one thing. I'm not even sure on that though.

Yes, they do. I flagged some people yesterday and I was talking to JR about something else and he mentioned having seen my flags, etc. I won't go into the conversation but yes, they see the flags and if they decide that they're against the ToS and what not, they'll take care of it. I've flagged spam threads before that were deleted so that should give you a picture of what happens. I'm sure if people who make these threads continue to do the same, they probably get banned. I'm sure they at least get a warning.

Basically what DeliciousSurprise said is true. I'm pretty sure that saying things like "I like this" as a thread are spam, too, because they could put that in the comments section of the product page. There's no discussion there. They COULD write, "I like this because of these reasons. Why do you like it or not like it?" and that could be considered a valid discussion topic.

Also, threads don't always necessarily have to be EdenFantasys-related. For example, a thread in the "TV, movies, music, and books" section doesn't have to have ANYTHING to do with EdenFantasys if it doesn't want to. It just has to deal with "TV, movies, music, and books".

Sometimes we have newbies that don't know that we have a review program, or if they do, they don't know how to access it or how it works or they just don't understand how the forum works.

There are some people that speak and/ or write English as a second language, which may be one reason why they don't write well. I also know that some learning disabilities hinder good grammar and syntax.

You know, something to think about before you flag half the forum.

I don't flag people very often because it wastes Admin's time. I only do it when someone has gone out of their way to be offensive. Most of the time, I could care less or I just ignore the post/ thread.

I have flagged a few here and these, also flagged point farmers for using the same accounts and spamming the same stuff on the same product pages etc.

Spam on the forums I have only flagged a couple times when it was complete gibberish

Even if it's because they don't know we have a review program, it's still spam. It should be flagged as spam but they should be directed towards the proper places. And I would never flag someone just because they don't write English the best. I meant that as people who write "chat speak" and what not. People who say "i liek dis", not people who can't speak English well. Also, I do anything but "flag half the forum". I flag when needed, where needed. That's all. I don't even flag that often. Sometimes, it'll be days and days and days before I see a forum that is obvious spam, or at least until I catch one.

I've never flagged anything, and I would probably only flag something if it was offensive. The spam posts are probably reviewers who just want the points for posting a discussion. If that's their deal, ok. I'll just ignore their discussions and let it sink to the bottom. But sometimes I do wish that people would look for an existing discussion on something instead of posting the 50th discussion on that topic.

I hope that most of my discussions have been productive.

I have to say, the discussions I hate the most are when people post a comparative discussion on what they should buy next, but I'm somewhat guilty of that as well. I posted a discussion on Fleshlights to find out what the guys on EF have to say about them, back when I was thinking of getting one for my boyfriend. (I ended up getting him a Tenga Flip Air Black instead)
