I work in my parents' restaurant as a food server. Sometimes I feel like what I do is a colossal waste of time. Don't get me wrong, the tips are great at our particular restaurant, and I'm grateful for the money. But I feel like my work doesn't contribute anything. I'd love to know that I'm making a difference in people's lives. For example, what I REALLY want to do, Physical Therapy, is what I would consider a rewarding career. But if I stop and really think about it, we are making a difference in our small way. I've seen the simple joy it brings people to enjoy a good meal, maybe with a bottle of wine, with friends or family. More than that, we have customers that have been loyal to us since we opened five years ago. I've gotten to know many of them on a personal basis, and I really enjoy making their dining experience that more special. When I get down on myself, I just need to think about this. What about you, is YOUR job fulfilling to you?
Do you find your job fulfilling?

I do. But I've gone through many jobs to get here

I'm in sales right now, and I guess I am helping people improve their lives some. But fulfilling? Not really. Maybe no one ever feels that their job is fulfilling.

I have worked in restaurants for the last 13 years. I have always wanted a different profession. I have came a long way in the food industry. I am the General Manager of a restaurant and known throughout this area but I have always wanted to be a Counselor. I know where you are coming from!

I find my job to be extremely fulfilling. I talk about my day like a I'm a kid in a candy store when my husband comes home from his job. I love working with all of you and helping to develop new things for the site. You all certainly keep me on my toes!

My job is very fulfilling. I am doing what I love, what I am educated and trained to do, and getting paid to do it! I help my patients every day, and I learn something new from every one of them.
I think having fulfilling work is necessary for one's sanity and to feel one is contributing to the World at large. I understand that in this economy, it may not always be possible to do exactly what you want for your paid job.
But, when one's job isn't as fulfilling as one wants, doing volunteer work in a field one finds fulfilling is an amazing thing! I volunteered as a breastfeeding lay consultant for several years before I got my MS Certification. It taught me a lot and also gave me a career, and I was helping people in the field I enjoyed while I was learning.
I can't think of much that is more fulfilling than volunteering in a field one feels strongly about.

I'm helping people and that is what it is all about. Too see them happy when they leave is a good thing.

I'm unemployed at the moment (but in school), and all the jobs I've worked at previously made me want to commit suicide at the end of the shift. The closest thing I ever got to 'fulfilling' was 'I rather like this' when I was a student aide in my college's professional development office. So, I'm in school to get a degree in office administration.

I hate my job as a waitress.
Don't do drugs kids. Stay in school. Or you be living off your tips like you're a refugee or something.

No. I hate my job and coworkers.
Fulfilling? Hah! It pays the bills and is turning my hair turn grey.
I work for a large chain of grocery stores as a purchaser. I'm management, but upper management refuses to see me as such. I don't get paid what I should, my coworkers are immature and don't do their jobs, and other management is always shoving their work off on me.
Rant, rant, rant!

I enjoy my job and like the people I work with, but I'm pretty severely overqualified and sometimes I think "what on earth am I doing" ...
I have hobbies outside of work that make up for it though~

That is awesome, however, never forget your calling. God has big plans for you, don't ignore them, at 24 years old you need to keep YOUR options open. Try night school for physical therapy or part time work at a local therapist office. Don't ignore and let your dreams go. The Universe is calling you and BIG plans are ahead.

Thanks for the encouragement. There are no PTA programs offered in my city, but my husband and I plan to relocate...eventually. .so we both can finish our school. In the meantime, it's nice to be able to put some money away for rainy days.

Depends on what kind of job I am working on. When I design a logo someone loves, yes--build a no trespassing sign, no.
