Do you feed your dog only dry food, only "wet" food, a combo of both, or only a home cooked diet.

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
After lots of research we finally settled on Wellness Dry and Canned for our new puppy, but HE wasn't thrilled with the taste, so we now feed Dick Van Patton's Natural Balance and when we put some boiled chicken breast on it, he gobbles it all up.

SO...what do you feed YOUR dog?

For breakfast they get dry only, which we call their "cereal" lol.

For dinner they get a mixture of wet and dry food as well as occasional home-cooked ingredients in the mix. They LOVE carrots in their food, or as a snack, so they get lots of those.

Sometimes in their "cereal" we also mix in some extra virgin olive oil, because it is very good for their coat.

My dog won't eat wet food. He loves a bit of unseasoned steak or chicken for a treat tho'! Every Christmas he gets a steak for his present since he says he appreciates that more than toys or clothes. He really has too many toys and sweaters anyway

I don't know if "home cooked" means human food. Sure gets some things we homecooked for ourselves as whole meal, though.

Good point. By Home Cooked, I meant anything cooked for the dog....I guess that can be what YOU are eating, or a special diet for the dog. However, many things WE eat...onions, black olives, grapes/raisins, and, of course, chocolate, are toxic to dogs, so we cannot be giving them "everything" we eat.

My dog only wants to eat the cat food it seems. We buy dry dog food and some canned food, but that is a special treat once a month, but sometimes once a week. Same for our cats. Though we do allow them to eat scraps, sometimes.

Homemade, but raw. We use dry food for traveling, and canned food for times of illness or surgery. So I guess we do a bit of everything.

Dry for my three. They get an occasional table scrap (They LOVE pizza crust) but we limit that. Our cat eats dry and canned, so for a real treat the dogs get some canned from time to time..talk about beggars. lol

I try to avoid wet pet food. It REALLY seems to give my pets stomach yuckies. No idea why, but I hate when they feel bad. It makes my weiner dog's stomach rumble and screech all night long! It literally sounds like the innards of his belly are yelling. One day I had my own stomach yuckies (I have some abdominal issues) and my weiner dog had had wet food so we were both laying in my bed with our stomachs yelling... literally. Mine would rumble and screech and then his would. I felt so bad for him and myself. Lol. My partner came in from being out and asked which of us were making the noises. Lol. It was so weird!

So I try to stick with dry food, but our pets get people food too. I don't give them anything too unhealthy, and never chicken bones! But it's hard to resist pookie's sweet eyes when I'm eating my cheese fries

I usually buy the Meow Mix, but the other day our local store was out so I went with Kibbles N bits. My pets are so picky. They won't eat much else besides those two brands. Screw the organic, healthy stuff. They won't touch it. Oh, and you can forget the cheaper brands too. They'll starve to death first. Lol. They think they're princesses.

He's not really my dog, so I don't really do anything regarding his food other than give it to him. My parents just buy him dry food.

Our cats usually get dry food and sometimes get wet food. They're very picky about it and will only the kind that has meat chunks in it, rather than the fully ground meat mixed with gravy. The one will just suck all the gravy off the meat and spit the chunk back in the bowl and just leave dried out meat chunks sitting there.

For now we feed him whatever we can actually get him to eat, when we moved in with my mom's boyfriend Ceaser started becoming super picky.
So at the moment it tends to be some form of cooked meat, usually cooked plain ground hamburger or the occasional hot dog. Once in a blue moon (as in: if we're really damn lucky) we can get him to eat a mix of tiny bits of dry dog food and a can of wet food.

Once we get our own place again though that dog is going to have to relearn how to be a normal dog and not an overly spoiled, picky one.
You call a dog a "Canine American" and suddenly they think they're humans.
