I didn't really think about it until recently, but a lot of music in my digital collection is independent. Et tu?

People ask me what music I like and I used to say, Neutral Milk Hotel, Okkervil River, Zaz, Spoon, Wolf Parade, Sleeper, Le Tigre. They would look at me funny. Now I just say I listen to Indie, and some foreign and pop music and leave it at that.

I definitely listen to a fair bit of music that falls outside of the mainstream, including indie music, for sure. I also listen to a fair bit of jazz.

Most of what I listen to does fall out of the mainstream category, but I would not consider it to be indie music. I really don't like indie personally, it's just the nature of the indie sound which, granted, sounds different but has a distinct strain of acoustic unpleasantness.
