Just wondering how MOST dishes get done these days. I have heard of people running their dishwasher every day..even for a few dishes. Others collect dishes in there all week, then run it, others just use it as a drying rack, after hand washing. How do you use yours?
Do you do ALL your dishes by dishwasher or by hand?

We have a dishwasher but we never use it because it wastes sooo much water. Plus it's only the two of us, so it's not that big a deal to do our own dishes by hand.

We use the dishwasher once per week when it is full. I do wash pans and china by hand, though.

No dishwasher, I do them all by hand.

I rarely use a dishwasher.

We use both...I put usual stuff in the dishwasher like plates and silverware and I hand wash pots and pans.

We do a bit of both. Cast iron skillet and egg pans are done by hand

I don't have a dishwasher anymore.

We do a bit of both. We have an old dishwasher and hard water so the dishwasher gets buildup really fast. I have to take it apart and clean it every few months or it's disgusting. When it starts getting gross, we use it as a drying rack until I have the time to clean it.

dishwasher!

I have a dishwasher but I almost never used it, I'm awful with stacking dishes properly in the dishwasher and always worried they might bang against each other during the washing cycle. And besides, I do not like to leave dirty dishes in the sink or dishwasher, I need to wash them immediately after a meal.

I don't use or own a dishwasher. I have handwashed only my entire life. I don't hate doing dishes really. We do use paper plates often, but when cooking, we use real ones and we use real glasses, silverware, etc. so there are dishes to do daily, but never more than a few usually unless we've had a party. I don't mind it too much since ours are quick and we're firm believers in rinsing when your done! This makes washing much easier. No need for scrubbing lots of dried food away.

I have two teenage daughters who earn money and trips to the movies and such by doing small chores like dishes. They actually do quite a lot in the house but are very well compensated!

We wash by hand. We have a dishwasher but don't use it....it's used for storage....weird, I know.

Depends, sometimes dishwasher, sometimes by hand.

We do a little of both

Most go in the dishwasher. Me or my sister hand-wash when there isn't enough room for something or stuff's stuck to a dish.

Well considering the dishwasher isn't hooked up or anything, I do all our dishes by hand and I tend to wash them in one sink full of hot water, then give them a quick rinse before they go hang out in the dish strainer for a while.
I'm not sure but I think using the same water to wash them all and then giving them a little rinse with clean water saves some water so that's the main reason I started doing that.

I do most dishes by dishwasher, but things like our cast iron pans and such have to be done by hand.
We do lots of cooking from scratch in our house and our king size (but water saving) dishwasher gets run, on average, twice a day.

Same here, some things by hand like "seasoned" pans... no detergent ever. Sharp knives by hand to keep from dulling the blades. Plates, glasses and of course table knives, forks, spoons in the dishwasher.

Some years ago, I had office space at an agency that did that, provide office space. Nobody had to unload and then put the clean coffee cups and small plates or silverware away. The break room had two dishwashers with movable placards "Dirty" and "Clean". It worked rather well.

I rarely use a dishwasher, only when I have a large gathering at my house.
10/07/2012
There are 6 of us so our dishwasher gets ran at least once a day everyday sometimes twice on the weekends.
10/07/2012
I would wash my dishes in the dishwasher, but my new apartment doesn't have one *sigh*.
10/07/2012
We wash our dishes by hand, but have bought paper plates and cups to cut down on work if we're having a gathering.
10/07/2012
Other. We run the dishwasher when it gets full, and also do some buy hand. There are pots and pans that don't fit in the dishwasher or that need to be scrubbed by hand. There's also times where the dishwasher has been run, so whatever dishes are sitting in the sink either sit there until it is emptied or they're done by hand just because.

I run the dishwasher most nights
