I've seen other discussions asking if you garden & what you plant, but I want to know about how well you grow things. So, how green is your thumb?

I wish I had a green thumb! My roommate has tons of plants, and she takes good care of them.Sadly. Every time I get a plant. either my cats eat it, It dies on me, or someone knocks it over. I have terrible luck with plants.

most of my plants do good, but I have a few that I have to fight with every year to make them grow and look healthy.

Most of all my plants I've had have died, so no.

My mother regularly kills things, but we have a deal where after they start to look bad, she gives them to me to resuscitate & if they make it, I keep them. I have more than mere green thumbs, my whole hands are green. I don't know where it came from, but I have always had a passion for growing things & even if I don't try, I can't seem to kill anything!

I don't have any plants in the home now or outside but when I did have plants in home they lasted a long time. I would not consider myself a green thumb though.

most definitely I have 2 green thumbs. I can grow anything in or outdoors. I can even grow plants from a leaf or cuttings. right now, I've started 12 African Plants, each from a leaf & 4 of them have already produced a small plant. My mother plants have uniquely colored flowers. my plan is to give one new plant of each mother plant to a friend.

the sun here has claimed more then one victim, but I can grow herbs!!

Nope. No green thumbs on this girl.

No plants for me, I just walked out my house for a walk the day before yesterday and I automatically got a headache from the pollen
04/28/2013
They do well until my cats start to chew on the leaves.

This is my wife's territory. Lol

Mine, too, but it just gives the plants character! But, I also supply diversionary plantings, just for the cats. Usually it's oat grass, they sell it as cat grass under a mark up, but it's just oats & sometimes flax, barley or wheat. I tried growing catnip indoors, but let's just say, NOT a good idea!

Not a green thumb - but not a killer either. I use to garden and did OK with it. I just don't have the patience or interest to do all the necessary pruning, fertilizing, etc.

Im good with plants I grow my own herbs and a small tomato plant on my apts balcony when I get more room Ill plant more things
04/28/2013
I have a few house plants, and a few outside plants. They do okay, but I forget about the ones inside a lot!
04/28/2013
The plants I've had have generally not done too well but it's not for lack of trying.
04/29/2013
Plants never did well around me, no matter what I tried.

Back home we always had really elaborate flower gardens and a good number of houseplants too. Here we aren't having good luck getting much at all to grow outside, and it's a constant battle to keep the houseplants from drying out.

Our apt does not get much light and every plant I've brought in has eventually died I even killed a cactus. I keep trying to get better with plants but the lack of light is really working against me too. That and my cat is always trying to eat the plants.

I can't keep any plants or flowers alive. They just seem to die on me.

Another way around to grow something is to just put a grow light or a cheap shop light right above the leaves, but not touching. That will help supplement any light they do get & might help, as long as they have a low level light requirement. My cats don't bother my phalaenopsis orchids & they get only indirect light & lots of neglect, but do well. If you search for easy care or tough to kill houseplants, you may find the perfect plant for you, just BE SURE TO CHECK IT against toxic plants for cats, link
FOR NON-CAT & NON-DOG HOUSEHOLDS ONLY: Snake plants are so tough & really hard to kill! I had a friend that was re-potting plants in her basement, an emergency came up & she had to leave the snake plant just tossed on it's side out of a pot. Eventually, she was able to do laundry down there, but had no time or interest in the plant & figured it died. A few months later, she went to clean up that area & the plant, which had been in the dark, with nothing but the moisture in the air from the laundry, was alive & well, but instead of markings on it, it was all one dark color! The link above has any info you need on them, but they actually like getting dry between waterings, another bonus! Cyclamen do well in the dark & like to dry out between waterings.

Nope, I checked out the list of "plants you can't kill" only to find I've accidentally done in at least two of them! I have such a black thumb that I've killed a cactus, a spider plant, and even a chia pet.

I'm sorry to hear that, but in your case, perhaps it's best not to keep trying? Did you try the snake plant, too? I know they are really tough to kill, but with your record, you just might be the person to do it!

I am in an apartment and it's prone to scale. Plants die .

I used to not be very good at keeping plants alive, but since my schedule is less busy now I've accumulated quite a few indoor plants that are all flourishing. The one I'm proudest of is my jalapeno plant. It's got its first pepper growing right now.
