Do you collect or enjoy antiques?

I have always loved antiques, even as a child before I knew there was a word or market for them. I have a houseful of them from years gone by and am always on the lookout for more....(Preferably affordable and amazing bargains!)

Yesterday we went to a couple yard sales and I found a 1940's Round Top vanity--WITH the mirror!! For only $10!!! I am so excited, I have already rearranged part of the bedroom and am using the vanity for...toy storage!

I love antiquing! About an hour and a half north of me is a place called Antique Alley. It's a many mile strip of road that is lined with antique stores. My best friend and I love it. One time we bought matching rings (yes we are that dorky!) for 10 bucks. She also found some other things she wanted.

A family heirloom that my family has is WWI medals that were my great grandfather's issued to him from Italy. I love looking at them, they are so cool.

My prize antique is a huge, World War I 'stereo'. It is German, has a reel to reel player/recorder, instruction book, record player and more dials for stations than anything should ever need or have!!! There is also 4 reels, which we have no idea how to play since we cannot read German! The cabinet is bookended bird's eye maple...soooo beautiful!! We got it at an estate sale for $250...it was appraised last year (for house insurance) at $5800.

I have a few heirlooms from my dad's family. My ancestor was a founder of the Freemason's and I have his pin, his son's ribbon from the statue dedication in his honor, and the first edition of the book from my ancestor's brother. I also have the plates used for the newspaper for my aunt-famous for education-and my ancestor who died at Bunker Hill.

I really like antique furniture, which is why I have my current bedroom set. It's from the 1930s or 40s and I found it on craigslist. It's a huge, heavy set and I purchased it for $500. Worth every penny!

Not a collector per sa but I do enjoy the few I have. A lot of them are tools, either from my Grandpa's or Dad but I have few other odds and ends. lol

And since you asked, I'll let ya see my latest score.

When we moved up here we inherited a storage shed full of the remains of a church yard sale. Long story but nobody knew who's stuff it was or what to do whit it. Told us to keep it and enjoy...well 97% went to the local St Vinny's. I saved this and tossed it the garage, pulled it out not two weeks ago...and it works! Sews pretty good for as old as it is. (I hope I work that good when I'm that old.)

I have been looking for a pitcher with the basin for years. I was suppose to get one when my grandmother died however she was forced to have an estate sale to help pay medical bills. She also had a gentlemans chair she was going to give me. I have looked in all surounding antique shoppes as well as consignment shoppes in my area with no luck.

Congrats on your find. I can imagine your excitement especially finding a piece in good condition with an intact mirror for such a sweet price. Good luck with your next find.

Is this a Singer or a White? I have both and they both are designed like this!! My singer is in the original cabinet and has the original drawers--the White has all the original attachments. Both of them work and looks like the original belts....LOVE this!!!! I am so jealous--I had to pay $25 for each one of mine!!!
