There was a recent survey suggesting that women talk more than men. It that true? Do women have more brain power to talk and carry on a more intelligent conversation? Or are men just wired to communicate more efficiently, and therefore, in the fewest words necessary? What do you think!
Do women really out-talk men?

Depends on the person, I'd say...

Depends on who you are talking too and what you are talking about. However, I think women talk a lot more then men..

We tend to over-analyze more than men and share it with others. (And if you don't believe me, ask a teenage girl about her love life.)

Agreed. But interestingly I read in one of my psychology books that there have been a few studies showing that men actually talk more then women.

Men talk more to assert their power and authority and women talk more to maintain relationships. Interesting!

My gf out talks me by far.

I would say women talk more socially and emotionally. Men talk more in a work situation and in a competition/inferiorit y setting with another person.
I have my days when I will not shut up--but then again so does my husband. I watched the clock last night waiting for him to shut up so I could tell him his son was on the phone.....32 minutes later he called him back.

I'm quite the chatterbox. I out-talk my partner by a ton. He just sits there and soaks it in. Bless his heart (and ears).

depends on the person and the situation. i talk far more than my wife does in our relationship. she talks to her friends more than i talk to mine. it seems like i talk more now than i did in my twenties...in general. it depends on the person with whom i am speaking. if they are interested in what i'm saying, i continue to talk. if i read them as being bored, i stop.

how about this...
...it depends on if the tv is on or off.

It depends. My hubby out talks me most of the time because he's an extrovert and I'm an introvert. If I have something to say, though, watch out.
03/17/2013
Iknow I do!

I know a couple guys that will out-talk a DOZEN women!! Every one is different; but yes--men definitely CAN talk more than women (...gossip, too!)

I think men & women talk in different ways, for different reasons & it depends on the circumstances.
But I think it's too grand an assumption that one or the other sex talks more. Surely there are cultural differences & other factors at play?
That said, in my experience, women seem to be more receptive to talking no matter the situation & men seem more particular in when they will & won't engage in talk.

Interesting perspective. This question was taken from a medical assessment of how the human brain is wired. The study indicated that women had a slightly more 'powerful' brain! I'm not sure what that means!

All the men in my life talk a lot more than I do...
Beyond that, I couldn't say without assuming

I agree, it's largely individual.
03/27/2013
Varies. There could be a slight overall tendency for women, but that doesn't mean too much when dealing with individuals.
03/27/2013
It all depends on the individual, not the sex.

With my SO yes I do, with anyone else I'm usually very silent.

I would definitely say that it's per person, my boyfriend can be very chatty if he has things to wax lyrical about, (ie cars, computers, games, his job) and he will talk my ear off. My sister is the same way, i'm for the most part content to sit with my thoughts in companionable silence while others around me need to fill the void.

My husband out talks me with ease! It's not intelligent conversation, but he's just more of a talker.
