Did you drink more before you turned 21?

Contributor: Midway through Midway through
Obviously underage drinking is wrong, but many people have done it. Based on a recent post, I got to thinking. Did you drink more before you turned 21, just because it was sneakier and something you "couldn't do", or do you drink more now, because you legally can?

I personally drank less after 21. I've probably drank two days total in the past two years.

On my 21st birthday, I bought a 4 pack of wine coolers. I split the first one with a friend at my birthday party, and got so violently sick that I ruined the whole weekend. And that's how I learned that I was allergic to alcohol.

I drink much more now than I did before 21; I don't have to worry that I'm breaking the law and that makes it more enjoyable.

I drank a few before, but drink a lot more now. I never got drunk when I was under 18... well maybe a few times...

Now I have a small liquor collection.

Ahh that sucks so bad. Worst thing ever to be allergic to. Well maybe not but unno haha.

I drank underage all the time and now that I'm of age, I drink less. I think it's because I've become more mature and I'm less of a party girl than I was when I was like 16. Don't get me wrong though, I can still drink with the best of them

Drinking age here in Canada is 19 by the way.

I'm 20 but I live in Canada so I was legal at 19. I drank more often when I was in high school than I do now. I basically got drunk every weekend. Now I usually drink once a month, twice tops. It doesn't have anything to do with the fact that I'm legal, I just have a different social life now. When I was younger I lived in the country and didn't have a job or a driver's license. There wasn't much to do on the weekend besides drinking in some guys barn.

The break for me wasn't 21, it was when I went to college. I barely drank before college. I did on occasion at H.S. parties.

I drank the most at 21-22. Masters has calmed that down lol.

I'm 24 and also am a Canadian so have been legally drinking since 19. I think I drink more now, if we're going by regularity..I try to get out and have some fun at least once a month. That being said, I probably did more binge drinking prior to the age of 19...so less often but definitely in more quantities. Now that I'm older, I know my limits.

Hahaha Canadian through and through! I had many many a days drinking in "some guys barn" during high school. There was never anything else to do. That or we'd sit in the parking lot of tim hortons for hours at a time.

I grew up like an hour away so turning 19 was basically a bigger deal than 18.

I'm 27 now and occasionally drank. I drink maybe every couple of monthsish.
When I first went to college I drank a lot more although never really a ton. Before college I drank a few times but not a lot. Once I turned 21 I still drank some but never more than that freshman year.

Never. Most of my Dad's side of the family are alcoholics (including him; though he's been sober for near 20 years now) and I was dragged to AA meetings since I could remember. I saw what happened to people who were unable to control the addiction. In fact, I didn't have my first drink until I was 31 (friend's anniversary party). Now I can take it or leave it, it really does nothing for me, and I was never curious enough to find out what 'shit-faced drunk' or 'being hungover' was like.

I was a goody-goody and didn't drink until I was 21. I just never cared as a teenager to experience drunkenness or hangovers (and haven't as an adult either). I was the studious type that did homework before playing, saying no to drugs, and focused on getting to college. Part of me feels like I missed out on having friends, but really they weren't good friends to have anyway. *shrug*

I would have much rather started having sex and buy toys earlier than I did than drinking alcohol! Now that's something I'd go back to change!!!

Although I first drank when I was maybe 15-16, beer and wine was legal at 18 in Washington, DC until the law changed in 1986 I believe.

I have had more drinks since turning 21, though not as many as I'd like. My boyfriend's stomach can't handle much alcohol, so I just avoid it too

I really only drank once before I turned 21. I was 19, I think I had one drink (peppermint schnapps and cranberry juice....Don't ask!), and I was passed out on the couch.

So I guess I have drank more after turning 21. But it's a very rare occasion. My cousins and I went on a drinking binge the nights leading up to my wedding. I've never drank that much since.

I did. It was a fun challenge to sneak into clubs and bars. Even though I've always looked younger than my age it can be done.

The day before I turned 21 I went into a liquor store to buy Kahlua. The clerk said "You're not 21. Oh, what the hell" and let me buy it.

I don't drink much now. I feel better when I don't.

Nope, I didn't drink alcohol (at least not more than a sip) until several months into my 21st year of life. I'd seen more than a handful of people do pretty stupid things while under the influence, so I was pretty wary of drinking in general. I'd say I'm an occasional drinker now. I probably have a drink or two every month or so. Just depends on health, what's available, and other plans.

I drank alcohol for the first time when I was 14 I think. I got really drunk. I didn't drink bcs I thought it was sneaky and fun. I drank bcs I loved the buzz and my mom thought it was funny to make family movies of a 14 year old and 11 year old drunk as hell. We have easily had access to alcohol in my house so there never was anything secretive about it.

My mom always said she preferred we drink at home than we drink out with friends and get into some kind of trouble.

I drink more now bcs I can buy my alcohol but I don't drink a lot. There is alcoholism in my family (obviously) and I have had issues in my relationship bcs of abuse of alcohol.

The drinking age in Quebec is 18. But once when I was 20 I went to New York to an Irish pub where the age requirement was 23. I didn't order any alcohol though, I was tired like hell. I thought if I had a drink I would pass out for sure.

They didn't let me buy any the night before my 21st birthday. They said the clock had to strike 12 midnight first. How ridiculously stupid. And it was like 9:30/10pm or so. I was pretty pissed. I mean, I kinda understood... I suppose... But still was pissed lol.

Yes, but a lot could happen in those two hours and they'd be implicated. They were just covering their own asses was all.

Yeah, that's why I sorta, kinda understood. Doesn't make it any less sad that 2 hours away meant so much.

I'm not 21 yet, but I don't like drinking at all. I try various wines and whatnot, but I've yet to find any that I don't dislike the taste. I figure I'll drink more when I'm over 21, but only because I'll want to try better wines at restaurants.

I have really ever drank anything at all my entire life. Not because i couldn't but because i never found the fun in it. I mean i like remembering the next day, and i realize too many people make way too many bad choices with alcohol. So i have been completely sober for 3 years now.
