Do you like cruises (as vacations)? Why/why not? (I'm trying to decide whether or not to go on one)

I have not been and don't want to...unless it is Alaskan.

They are amazing!! Always activities, lounges, great food at all times! Room service, bars, pools and jacuzzis. You can drink and drink without worry about driving or transportation. You meet interesting people. And they are way cheaper right now than flights, hotels, and food. I'm planning to go on one for my birthday in May a 5day

I totally agree. Plus I love the stops to different exotic places! Took a 7 day

Carribean cruise and got to see Grand Caymens, Haiti, Jamaica, Cozumel. Very exciting! I highly recommend.

Cruises seem a bit...silly. I dunno, I'd rather explore new places than spend my time on a boat.

I had the time of my life on the carnival cruise we went on, it was only 7 days, but it was fun! When the boat docked we stayed onboard because there was so much to do! However, I will never ever again go on one. My mom was stopping by to check on our house. It was freezing weather here (in the teens) and our gas heater went out, Causing pipes to burst. My mom had no idea what to do. This happened on the second day we were at sea, and it was virtually impossible to get ahold of us. Our cell phones had no service, and the cruise line number never went through. She scoured the internet for contact information, and called numerous numbers and they told her the same thing. Sometimes it takes a few tries to actually reach the boat, try in 15 minutes. Never once did she get ahold of us. So when your pipes break, and nobody has money to fix it (my mom can't afford to float the money) the water company turns off your water, until your pipes are fixed. That resulted in more pipes breaking, Needless to say my mom had to take our cat, dog, and 10 gallon fishtank to her house, since ours was freezing. It cost us over 6,000 dollars. I would never be able to take that risk again But the cruise itself was a nice break from reality...for a little bit anyways!

I REALLY want to go on a cruise. I just need to put aside some money, figure out where exactly I want to go, and find some good people to go with. Not as easy as it sounds lol, maybe I can go when I finish grad school...

I've always wanted to go and all my friends who have gone on one love it. I can 't wait until I can get enough money to take one.

I just wanted to put in here that I went on a 7 day cruise to the south Caribbean this year, and on the boat we had cell phone reception (granted, it was like a thousand dollars a minute, so we kept it off, but we let everyone know that if there was an emergency, we would turn our phones on every night to check voicemails and if something happened, they should leave a voicemail and we'd call them back if necessary). We also had full, non roaming regular cell reception on a few islands (AT&T in Puerto Rico, USVI and... Hrm, I forget where. Maybe Grand Turk?) where we were able to chat with people. There was also an internet cafe onboard, and I purchased an internet package for $50 that lasted my family the whole cruise, but they also had pay per minute internet, for when you just need to check your mail and whatnot.

I'd love to do a 30 day cruise; there's so much to do on the boats (even though we spent a lot of time hanging out in the casino making friends and flirting with the dealers) that it's almost overwhelming, you're tired before you even get off the boat.

Did that, in '96. Highly recommended, but go in the dead of summer because it's still cold then but not arctic.

I'd rather be vacationing in a place that I can absorb, instead of spending most of my time in a boat and visiting an island for a few hours.
03/09/2011
I never have, but I'd like to.

I've never been on one but my husband surprised me with one for my birthday/valentines/ho neymoon gift. We will be going in May and I can't wait!

I wouldn't let one freak occurrence turn me off of doing something fun. The likelihood of ever having an emergency like that again would be pretty minimal. Plus, I don't know how long ago your cruise was, but like @DeliciousSurprise was saying, there are much better options available for being reached.

They really don't interest me that much. I guess I'd rather be in the mountains if I'm going to be going on vacation.

Too expensive

Not interested - the signs in the ER's around here that say if you have ___ ____ ___ symptoms and have been on a cruise, notify use IMMEDIATELY freak me out, plus the incidences of odd virual infections, etc. breaking out on cruises just freak me out too much.

I also like my vacations on dry land. A nice lake or access to the ocean is nice, but to be at sea does not appeal to me.
I always think of cruises as a bunch of old and sick people getting drunk and packed together on a boat. It's probably not accurate, but I really have no desire to go on a cruise.
03/09/2011
I wanna kinda, but I've never been on a boat, so I don't know if I'd be the seasick one. I'd love to travel someplace exotic, but I'm terribly afraid of airplanes, so... lol
03/09/2011
I've never been on one but the boyfriend and I have been discussing it lately.
03/09/2011
I have an irrational fear of water/drowning. I'm terrified the ship would get hit by a rogue wave and I'd die. Boats freak me out and make me nauseous. Hell no I don't wanna go on a cruise.

I've never been on a cruise, but I really want to. My inlaws invited us to go on one in August I believe, and as much as we wanted to go, it just wasn't going to work out. I have hope that one day, we'll get to go on one. I'd love something warm and tropical

I have gone on two cruises so far, and the second one was a week long one in the Caribbean for our honeymoon. It was awesome, especially having the first and last full day at sea. It forced us to relax, and we had a great time.

Would love to go on a cruise but have a terrible feeling my hubby who gets car sick would not do well on a boat either....

He: We've never been, but I'd give it a shot. I'd feel like the ultimate tourist for being on such a scheduled vacation.
She: We're not huge fans of having a schedule, but I'd love to go on a Mediterranean cruise.
He: If I get seasick, I'm going to vomit in the most inconvenient place.
She: I'll pretend I don't know you and after you clean up, you can find me at the bar
He: Love you too
