Personally, I have never had the luxury of doing so. But, I would in a heart beat if I could afford it.
Cruise or no cruise?

I went on a cruise to Bermuda a couple years ago and it was one of the best vacations ever. They are there to spoil you with all the food and entertainment. I went Royal Caribbean if you are wondering.

I've never been, but I've had friends and family members that have and love them.

never been on one and never will

We talked about going for a long time, and we finally did. We just got back about a month ago, and it was the best vacation ever!!!!! I highly recomend taking one, and may I suggest one of the Royal Caribbean lines, especially the Celebrity Cruises. Almost everyone we talked to that has been on more than one says the Royal Caribbean lines are the best. The Royal Caribbean lines apparently cater a little more to families with kids, and the Celebrity Cruises not so much, but still plenty for everyone to do! GO!!

never been on one

Never been one--never will go on one. I am scared of the water!!!!!!!!!

I have never been on a cruise but I have been on boats before. My family do a lot of them and they love them. I really don't dig the water to much and get a little sea sick. But I think it would be nice to go and I will keep off deck as much as possible. Then again after what happened on the last cruise it makes me wonder.

Eff no. Rather be on land.

I am a general aviation Pilot! Under those circumstances, I can go where no cruise ship can go! But, if I did want to take a cruise, seriously consider the Northwest Passage to Alaska. You will see beautiful country, marine wildlife, and more! Oh ya, at some port-of-calls you can even do some hikes into the wilderness along the Canadian coast or maybe in Alaska!

You will not have to worry about priates either; maybe only bears! Don't forget to take you Passport. Good luck!

Never been on a cruise personally. But I think they sound really fun.

I have done research. It was the grey and black water -- high in nitrates -- that I was referring to.

Water from showers and sinks 'gray water' is separate from toilets 'black water'. I believe gray water is discharged. Black water is treated and filtered before discharge.
You have a point with issues with gastrointestinal and respiratory issues - it's a lot like flying. I always get sniffles when I fly more than 2 hours. Luckily they go away after being on the ground for a day or so.
We've been on 3 cruises and had no problems - aside from sleeping and dining we were outdoors in the fresh air as much as possible.
If I had a compromised immune system I would not go on a cruise - otherwise they are a lot of fun. less

Like anything else - you get what you pay for. Something may be cheap for starters, but the extra fees or add-ons can get you. We've been on three lines - Disney, Carnival, and Royal Caribbean. In our opinion, Royal Carib has the nicest boats and amenities.
One thing to make your cruise cheaper and get the same value is to book the excursions yourself OUTSIDE of the cruise line. The cruises get a commission for each one they sell, and you can often book your own directly for much less!

Never been on one, but we're trying to save up for a Disney Alaskan cruise in a couple of years. The main question is, should we be nice and take the kids (it is Disney, after all), or leave 'em with family and enjoy our first real vacation together?

Cruises are pretty fun, but only if you don't mind spending many days out at sea. It may seem exciting at first but it does get boring after a few days.

The cruise ship that we were on had a running track on the top deck, a lawn that you could play games on, indoor and outdoor pools and many ports of call that got you off the ship and outdoors. We even "swam" with sting rays! (Waded is more like it, but we fed them, too!)

You may have some misconceptions about cruises. All of those bad things you mentioned "can" happen, but most is very rare, especially when you take into consideration the number of cruise ships that are out there. As for old people, on our cruise there were people with walkers and some 3+ year olds, but most were probably 40-50. That may be old to you. Look into Royal Caribbean. I think they cater more to young families with kids. The ports of call can be full of historic information as well as some fantastic shopping. And you never have to worry where to park, where to eat, DWI , getting a taxi, or what to do. Just relax at one of the 10+ bars!

I like a nice vacation somewhere where there are a lot of historical attractions and shopping. Washington DC is nice, as is the rest of the East Coast. I like San Fransisco. I really want to go to Portland when we can afford it. We also spent time in the U.P. of Michigan, near Copper Harbor. A lovely place.
I'm not a fan of "tropical" places, nor boats, planes etc.
Your mileage may vary. less

You should read my post to P'Gell. We never saw a single shuffle board game for the whole week. But the casino was jumping every night, and it was hard to find a place on the dance floors!

I'm way too young to be playing shuffle board. The pirate aspect doesn't really bother me, it's a lot harder to take down a huge cruise ship than it is to take down a merchant vessel. Certainly more difficult to get on board. It's not like you can sneak up on them or anything. less

Never been on one myself. My husband wants to go on one but I really don't.

I've been on one that traveled from Boston to Bermuda. It was horrible because of the rocky cold rough water and I can get motion sickness just about anywhere. I haven't been able to plan a vacation that was a cruise since then.
05/28/2012
I've never been on one, but I've been thinking I'd like to take my kid on a Disney cruise when he's a little older.
05/28/2012
I know that a lot of people love them, but I hated the 2 I was on, I felt like cattle, and like I was in HS all over again with being told when I had to eat in the nicer restaurants, and when to get off the boat and when to get on. Give me an all inclusive with freedom to roam where and when I want.

I went on a cruise 20 years ago and absolutely loved it! Saving or (trying to) go on another one day!
05/28/2012
I LOVE cruises!!!! They are soooooo relaxing!!! Days laying by the pool, great food, and dancing every night is a perfect vacation for me. Just choose your ship according to your personality, every ship has a different personality and attracts a different clientele.
