The common sense has come with age, but book smart has been my thing ever since I could read.

both i hope. I'm in grad school, which tends to destroy any street smarts someone might have.

I do not think that they are exclusive at all. Most people I know who think of themselves as having "street smarts/common sense smarts" as opposed to book smarts or w/e are actually just as ignorant, awkward and stupid about every day things, if not more so than everyone else. *shrugs*

I have both but find the common sense is better for me than the book smarts. I need both for my job and I have always been able to pickup new skills quickly. I see many in my field coming in that are very bright but struggle with common sense things. Might just be the field I am in.

Both, but I think my common sense is slightly better than my book smarts. Heck, I may not have either! Lol. Kidding, kidding. I'm no genuis, but I have some common sense. Lol

You have to have both in my opinion.

I have both, but can tell you my strengths and weaknesses easily. When it comes to directions I SUCK! I cannot take or give directions very easily. I have to have landmarks to go by. Turn left at McDonalds go past the red brick house, etc. Don't tell me its on x road 3 miles from x place. Nope not gonna happen.

I think there's a bias in that most people will pick "both" just from their own self-perceptions.

Both. I'm a very academic/studious person, but I don't always trust everything I read from books. I rely on my own hunches, what just makes sense, and I rely on my own pesonal experiences to form my opinions.

Same here WildeKnight, except I'm neither.
Staying with the smartass perspective. A relatively common observation seems to be that the folks who claim to have common sense or being book smart... aren't.

Got a lot of "book learnin'" behind me, but also grew up in a big city, where having some common sense was a survival must. Thus, I honestly feel I have a good dose of both.

I find it interesting to see SO many respondents here feel the same way about themselves.
