The common sense has come with age, but book smart has been my thing ever since I could read.
12/21/2011
I am full of useless knowledge.
12/21/2011
both i hope. I'm in grad school, which tends to destroy any street smarts someone might have.
12/21/2011
I would like to say that I am both.
12/21/2011
Definitely both. Although I am handicapped by the fact that I am a terminal smartass.
12/22/2011
Never really book smart. I prefer learning as I go.

I do not think that they are exclusive at all. Most people I know who think of themselves as having "street smarts/common sense smarts" as opposed to book smarts or w/e are actually just as ignorant, awkward and stupid about every day things, if not more so than everyone else. *shrugs*

I have both but find the common sense is better for me than the book smarts. I need both for my job and I have always been able to pickup new skills quickly. I see many in my field coming in that are very bright but struggle with common sense things. Might just be the field I am in.
12/22/2011
Both, but I think my common sense is slightly better than my book smarts. Heck, I may not have either! Lol. Kidding, kidding. I'm no genuis, but I have some common sense. Lol
12/22/2011
You have to have both in my opinion.
I have both, but can tell you my strengths and weaknesses easily. When it comes to directions I SUCK! I cannot take or give directions very easily. I have to have landmarks to go by. Turn left at McDonalds go past the red brick house, etc. Don't tell me its on x road 3 miles from x place. Nope not gonna happen.

I think there's a bias in that most people will pick "both" just from their own self-perceptions.

I agree with this. While other people can see it, it's hard to see yourself.

I have some basic common sense, but I'm much more book smart than people smart.

Both. I'm a very academic/studious person, but I don't always trust everything I read from books. I rely on my own hunches, what just makes sense, and I rely on my own pesonal experiences to form my opinions.

I like to think I have SOME common sense, lol, but I'm mostly book smart. I know a lot of random shit about random shit, lol. And its just all packed in my brain. People will CALL me to find out how to spell stuff!!

I've got a plethora of useless knowledge (leeches have 32 brains), but I've also had enough experience to be "street smart" (DON'T ask an alcoholic why they drink).

Same here WildeKnight, except I'm neither.

Staying with the smartass perspective. A relatively common observation seems to be that the folks who claim to have common sense or being book smart... aren't.

I have uncommon common sense sooooo I miss alot of the no duhs. Books smarts is more admirable.

Both, but I'm a little more book smart than common sense smart.

Got a lot of "book learnin'" behind me, but also grew up in a big city, where having some common sense was a survival must. Thus, I honestly feel I have a good dose of both.

I find it interesting to see SO many respondents here feel the same way about themselves.

Good psychology analysis there Eucaly. In fact, I have seen people with a LOT of one or the other, and rarely with both!!!!

Too funny you admit it. I know a few of those, very brilliant professionals and yet there is an edge of 5 year old behavior and often no mouth filter (all the name of being funny or "smart", of course).

While I think I have both. I lean towards book smarts because of my academic value.
08/12/2012
Totally book smart
08/12/2012
-pushes glasses up nose- some times common sences eludes me...
08/12/2012
I voted both because I wish I had both but in reality I probably have a lot of book smart and not nearly enough street smarts.
08/12/2012
I have more book smarts than street smarts but I'm pretty good with both. I ask a lot of questions about everything.
08/12/2012
Both!
08/12/2012
I have common sense (more it seems than some people) but I have more book smarts.
08/12/2012
I call it instinct instead of common sense.
08/12/2012
Growing up I had no common sense, but I finally got some.
08/12/2012
A little of both.

Both, but probably more common sense
11/22/2012
As much as I think I'm equally lacking in both, I'm probably more academically inclined.
11/22/2012
Book, definitely. My lack of common sense is a running joke among myself and my friends.
11/23/2012
Neither. haha.
11/23/2012
I've got a bit of both, but I'd say a bit more book smart.
11/23/2012

11/27/2012
I chastise my sense and tell it not to be common.
11/27/2012
