So, what is a good Chinese restaurant for me to try out? I have gone to U Buffet, but I'm not sure which "national" chain i should try. Any suggestions?

I'd avoid any national chain for Chinese food. To me, national chains = processed, unhealthy food (McDonalds, KFC, Applebees, etc).

I'd suggest checking out any of the review sites you can find for your area. For Detroit, we have MetroTimes and RealDetroit.

I have an Asian fusion place near me that serves Chinese, Japanese (read: only sushi, basically), and Thai food. It's AWESOME, because I can order elements of each all on the same night!

My way of assessing the quality of a Chinese restaurant is to see how they cook their vegetables. If they're wilted and swimming in sauce, then it's a no-go for me because then I can't imagine how my meat dishes are being handled!
