I was having a disscusion with a friend the other day about how when I carry cash on me I am more inclined to spend money. Does this happen to anyone else? Do you have self control when shopping if you know you have cash? Does it make a difference if you just have a credir/debit card? curious on peoples thoughts on this.

Yup, Im the same way. If I use my debit card, I can track everything too. That way when I piss away money, I can look back and say "oooh THATS where it went! Damn!" lol

No it doesn't make a difference. I really don't spend money no matter what form it is.

I spend more if I use a card. I never pay attention and just swipe.

Neither change my spending habits

I don't like to carry a lot of cash. I always use my debit card, and I keep track of every cent I've spent.

I don't like cash, it's grubby, I much prefer to pay with plastic.
The only time I carry cash is when I'm going to a bar, as most places don't take cards, and it's easier to set beforehand what I intend to spend.

I usually don't keep a ton of cash on me, but I spend it at places that I would prefer not get my credit card information. If I don't feel my info is safe somewhere I'll pay in cash. I also use cash for items we don't want showing up on our credit card statements (we're weird like that) like liquor places and such. Because of this, I'm not more or less inclined to spend money with cash vs card.

I like to use credit/debit cards. Even if I lose receipt, I can still find the transaction for returns. For example, if you've to shop at macy's. They attach a return label with every item you buy. If you lose receipt but have the card you purchased the item with, they will refund the money back onto your card. However, if you used cash for this transaction, they will only refund you store credit.

That surprises me. I would think using cash helps people spend less because they have that connection to the money leaving their wallet. It's much easier to swipe a card and not think about it. That's how it works for me, anyway. Everyone is different I suppose.

I pay with my CC for the cash back, then pay off my credit bill at the end of the month for no interest. I hardly ever have cash on me, dont know why.
