Bug out kit. Do you have one?

With all the TV shows and articles on "preppers"...getting ready for some big "Armageddon" event, they forget that some people, like me, also do "prepping", but for very real (and frequent) events. Since we live in Hurricain Ally, we often need to evacuate for a few days when storms threaten. Now we get hit with tornado's too, and I want a pre-packed bag with some cloths, toiletries, important insurance documents, DVD copies of my wedding photos and other critical house pictures (for insurance claims)...etc. I also keep it stocked with some water boxes, long lasting cookies, and basic supplies (small pocket radio, and TV) and even a few bucks in cash (in a power failure, credit/debit cards are worthless).

With my "grab and go" bag, I can survive a few days in relative comfort in a shelter, hotel room or even my car, if I had to.

Anyone else have a grab and go bag? How extensive is yours?

I have a small "overnight" type grab and go bag that would work.
I have enough stuff in my purse at all times to survive a month anywhere on the planet., under any condition.
I have a pretty thought out "grab and go" bag.

I have an "Armageddon" ready grab and go "system". I am ready. Bring it on, baby. (Just kidding. I assume even the biggest preppers pray to never need their kits).

I do have a hurricane box with batteries, candles and lamp oil. I live close enough to the coast we are affected by hurricanes fairly often, but far enough inland we dont leave, just need to get by without power for a week or 2. I also have a list of things we buy when one gets close.

We have a power out kit for the house for things we need for a few days without power: canned food, water, candles, flashlights, batteries, propane camp stove.

In my truck I carry essentials in case I ever become stranded on the road.

But no dedicated bug out bag.

We have a dedicated kit for emergencies at home, and I had a separate overnight bag as well. I don't have one at school, though I do carry several things in my backpack (small first-aid kit I put together, protein bars, knife, light) for everyday happenings.

I'd survive a power-out for a couple of days, but I don't really have anything real. I do have a semi packed night bag and an emergency bag in my car.

Not ready for anything really. I don't live in an area where we have any real natural disasters happening. I mean, we have flashlights in case the power goes out during storms/heavy snow/whatever, but that's about it. Never needed anything of the sort.

I have a flashlight and a radio that runs on batteries (and I have the batteries). That's it.

Ever since being trained as a Red Cross volunteer years ago, I've kept a kit with food, water and other gear. Living fairly close to NYC post-9/11, we're well aware that all kinds of shit can hit the fan with no warning, so we take it seriously. Hurricane Sandy was our first real test and we were glad to find we were ready. We didn't have to evacuate, but it was good to know we would've been OK if we'd had to.
