I usually make my birthday dessert, so it's whatever I want. A few years ago, I bought a cake, though. (It was lime green. I had to get it.) Then my friend and I spent the afternoon making me Birthday Danishes. Then we went and hung out with another friend, whose birthday was the day before, and we made a cake at the first friend's house because the second friend had never had a cake for his birthday.

This year, I made myself both a vanilla sprinkles cake with lemon curd filling and whipped cream frosting and a blueberry galette, which is, essentially, a lazy pie. They were both so delicious.
