Birth weight vs Birth date

Contributor: Ajax Ajax
Okay so I have two questions.

1. How much did you weigh when you were born? Or how much did your kids weigh when they were born?

2. Were you a premature baby (born early), a term baby (born right on time) or a post term baby (born late)

I don't have any real reason for asking, just curious.

I myself was a preemie born 3 months early and weighing 2 lbs 4 oz.

**edit: meant to make the title birth weight AND birth date not vs, but ah well**

1. I weighed 6 pounds, 9 ounces.

2. I was born "two days early". So, in other words, right on time!

My sister weighed 6 lbs even and she was also right on time. In today's terms we would be considered slightly below average weight, but we were right on target according to birth statistics for our birth years. My mom and I almost died during her pregnancy with me, so I'm surprised I weighed as much as I did.

I was born about 4 weeks early and weighed 5 lbs, 11 oz.

My eldest dd was born about 10-14 days early and weighed 7 lbs 4 oz

My next dd was born only about a week before her due date and weighed close to 8 lbs

My next baby was born about 4 weeks pre-term, looked preterm and weighed a little over 5 lbs.

She dropped down to 4 lbs some oz and then started to bring her weight back up before we left the hospital after a 4 day stay. She was healthy and nursed well, but weighed only 19 lbs at a year. It took her 7 years to catch up to the other kids in size and weight. Now she is one of the taller kids in the class and is slightly chubby (as is normal for most of my family for girls in their early adolescence. We usually even out around 15 or so.)

(I never have accurate due dates, because I have irregular periods and we have sex too frequently to keep track of when a child may have been conceived. I think my youngest was conceived during a Johnny Depp movie we rented a day My Man was home due to a back problem. I only know that because it was the only time we had unprotected sex, and I was sure I was in my "safe zone." So much for Natural Family Planning.)

P'Gell - Babies will naturally lose a little bit of weight right after birth. In fact, anything between 5-7% loss of their body weight in the first 72 hours is considered average. Often it's even due to something as simple as IV fluids being inserted into the mother before birth to avoid dehydration and the baby carrying excess body fluid. The rule of thumb tends to be "don't read the weight, look at the baby" to determine if it's healthy.

I was born 8 pounds and 3 ounces. I have no idea if I was on time or late. I know that I was late according to the timeline my mother was given but she is still convinced that the doctors simply didn't know what they were talking about. According to their records I was over two weeks late.

What's interesting is that my brother, who was apparently on time, was born 8 pounds and 2 ounces! Creepy close!

I actually don't know the details about me. But I can tell you my daughter was born three days over due and weighed 8lbs 8.86oz. I believe I was only about seven pounds, don't know if I was early or late.

Hm...I think I was 2wks early and I was 6lbs 6oz. My brother was a whole month early and he was 6lbs 9oz. Both my brother and I were not considered preemies. However both my brother and I lost a lot of weight after we were born due to health complications. My brother had something wrong with his stomach which caused him to constantly throw up and he had surgury. I had deformed/malfunctionin g kidney which I also had to have surgery for. I have no kids yet, however, I am at a high risk for preclampsia(sp?) so I dont know how far to term I will be able to carry a child. . But nonetheless, we are trying to have kids
