If you could have a big cat (Tiger, cheetah, lion)Afford one, it be well behaved, and love you, would you get one? I may, at that point get one, since I love cats, but, you really can't tame their "nature" so I'd always be a bit afraid of being attacked. How do you feel about this?
Big cats.

Would love one, but would be too terrified to get one! Lol.

I would be way too scared that it would eventually get mad and bite me or something no matter how sweet it acted. Even nice little domesticated cats get mean sometimes, but their teeth don't hurt as much as a tiger's.

I did OTHER since I think it is cruel to attempt to have a big cat as a pet. They are not house pets and almost no individual can provide the space or care one of these majestic creatures really needs. It is dangerous for the animal and the owner and a grossly unnatural life style for them.

The ONLY minor exception to this...the ONE big cat that has made a decent pet, with LOTS and LOTS of room and appropriate care, is the Cheetah, but even then, a cage or a back yard is NOT even close to enough room or a natural environment, so I am totally with those that believe ownership of such animals should be totally and completely banned by private individuals.

Even in playing or natural pride interactions, they are powerful enough to kill you. It is not even a matter of them being mad or hunting. They could kill you while playing with, or protecting you.

I do agree with you, I don't think i'd ever want to keep one as a pet due to their nature, but, i would still love to go to a zoo and be able to pet one. (Though zoos seem rather cruel too.)

I love big cats, but there's no way I'd get one b/c I do have small kids and wouldn't want it to turn on my kids. I have to protect my kiddos.

If you are well trained, understand the HUGE risk you are taking, have the resources and space to properly care for the cat then you MIGHT be ready to have a large cat.

Big cats haven't been domesticated yet so they will always be dangerous. They could be domesticated like the Silver Fox in 3 to 8 generations, but it would have to be a rather large breeding program. If a "small" big cat were domesticated, like a bobcat or clouded leopard, then I definitely would.
12/26/2011
I like birds more, and so a cat of any size would be a bad idea.

No, I believe Big Cats need to stay in the Wild or have actual trained professionals and many of them taking care of them. I do not think that it is wise to house large cats, bears, or wolves, but for those that do there should be much better regulations on them.
It was not to long ago where I live a guy Shot himself, but not before he opened the Loins, Tigers, Cougars, and Bear cages to set the Free, the whole town was on panic because there were 20 wild aggressive animals out on the lose. There needs to be more regulations, so not just one person can farm having all these animals, there needs to be a whole huge staff to do this, like a zoo.

Yeah! I heard about that! So sad, the cops shot all of the animals instead of trying to capture them.

I'd say no to large cats for one main reason: Crazy Cat Time! We have 3 cats that run around here, tearing stuff up, and they're < 12 lbs. Could you imagine 50+ lbs of cat running around your home? NO THANK YOU!
12/26/2011
I wouldn't be afraid of it, but I don't think pure wildcats should be pets either. Hybrid pets are one thing, wildcats are another.
12/26/2011
I love big cats, but wouldn't get one. I wouldnt mind meeting/interacting with tamed tigers though.
12/26/2011
Oh definitely.
12/26/2011
I think that if I owned enough land to make some sort of attempt at a "natural habitat" for a big cat I would rescue one that could not be released into the wild for one reason or another. I wouldn't be afraid, I've worked around large animals and you just have to have respect for them, respect that they can kill you but unless you give them reason, typically they won't.
Chances are, I couldn't afford to care for one, because they do cost a LOT of money to house, but it is a nice thought!

12/26/2011
Oh I couldn't do it. I know that even if they loved me, it's very possible for nature to take over.
12/26/2011
I love cats of any size, so the thought of it is tempting. It would be nice to cuddle and pet a big cat, but the reality would probably not turn out as well as the fantasy.
12/26/2011
I don't believe these gorgeous creatures should stay in a person's home. They belong in the wild where it is protected from poachers and what not. Although the idea is nice and exotic, I can't help but shed a tear because there aren't many left. Not to mention their ferocious nature they cannot help, I'd like to keep my face!
12/26/2011
hell no
12/26/2011
I have had black panthers and white tigers in many of my dreams. I just love big cats. Given the opportunity to own one, if extinction wasn't an issue, and I had enough land/proper environment, etc, I would (but not as a house pet -- because that's too cruel to coop them up!)
12/26/2011
probably a white tiger, or maybe a lion. i love big cats, but this would be dependent upon millions for a suitable habitat and wild feeder animals.

I'm allergic to them, so I'd never have one. I find them cute and interesting though.

It depends on my budget and some other factors.
IF I had the money, I would be open to housing a cat that couldn't be rehabilitated and put back in the wild. But it would have to fit in with my life, because that's very expensive and lot of care.
The animal NEEDS an outdoor enclosure, and depending on needs an climate, and indoor portion for climate control - that is where it lives, it is not a shared space with humans. I would not be afraid, because I trust myself to disassociate and not treat it like a person or do anything dangerous.
It would not be a housepet or a pet you can visit and touch. It lives in its enclosure and is fed safely.
Honestly, it would be something I would have to think very hard about. It's a big responsibility and very expensive. I doubt I would ever have enough time to devote to it or enough money (they eat a LOT). It's not a desire of mine, and I don't want one, but I'd be open to it if I were excessively rich and didn't have to work and there was an animal in need.

I understand the fascination with big cats. They are beautiful and exotic. However, I would never get any kind of wild animal as a pet. It's not good for the animals, and it's not good for people. Those who love animals, in my opinion, would be better served spending their time and energy on conservation, not on collecting wild animals in their home.

If they wouldn't be wild and would love me / behave like a housecat, then yes. I would love to have a lion.

I would love to get one, but only after learning a lot more about them, and I would follow every little rule of interacting with them to the t. They would have to have their own enclosure outside/in another building. Not kept in the house. And I wouldn't interact with them inside the enclosure without someone else present just in case.
