Alright... as strange as this is going to sound.... King Kullen Store brand rootbeer what the best for me. They just stopped making it last summer. If I had to pick something else it would be stewarts.

ICB is really great and has a great head. I purchased several bottles as a treat for our family christmas gathering. The kids loved drinking out of the bottle! Now my grandmother was worried about the appearance of a "beer bottle" in pictures. LOL

There used to be a local brewery that made a great root beer around here, but they got bought out by another regional brewery after the owner ran it into the ground. The one that bought them out's root beer tastes like liquid gingerbread and is heavy on the cinnamon. I think it would be great as a float but it doesn't work well on it's own to me. As for more national brands, I would say that I like Goose Island followed by IBC. One of these days I'd like to make my own.

I love Barq's. It also helps that it contains caffeine, and I'm a college student that doesn't sleep all that much. So I'll always choose it over like Mug or A&W, both of which do NOT contain caffeine.

i guess A&W (just not from the restaurant because they dont add ice, which i get, but its always luke warm which is gross). but i've never really thought about much taste difference between a&w/barqs or any others
