Are Bath Salts an issue in your community?

Contributor: Sundae Sparkles Sundae Sparkles
I work and live in Upstate new York. we are getting hit by a bath salts epedemic and it just started recently.

I'm originally from Central Maine were I worked in a Mental Hospital we saw bath salts becomeing an epedemic 2 years before all this zombie face eatting stuff.

I'm wondering if bath salts is an issue in your community, and when it started poping up

Not that I know of. Aren't "bath salts" crystal meth (rather than the bath salts sold in stores?)

I am not in touch with the drug culture in my area, but I hear a lot stories about prescription painkiller abuse.

Living in New Mexico we have... Just about an everything problem, sans anything very expensive. I haven't HEARD much about Bath Salts, but being just north of the border and having the drug culture we do I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

They were being sold at weird places like certain gas stations but law enforcement stepped in and it's now banned here. We also had those places selling K2. I remember idiots bragging about getting the K2 like they were cool or something, yeah real cool to do something more dangerous than the original thing!
I had a drug and alcohol psych. class before I graduated and they said our area has more problems with abuse of prescription opiates.

"Bath Salts" are a European amphetamine like drug that is not the same as crystal meth, believed to usually be made from Methylenedioxypyrovale ron or a clone of that drug. It's been popular in Europe and is still legal in some parts of the US.

Here's an article about them. link

They aren't a huge problem in our area, yet. I have several relatives who are police officers (one in Chicago and two Sheriff's Deputies) who have told me in our area, due to the proximity to Chicago Crack and Oxycontin are still the most abused drugs in this area.

This hasn't been an issue in my area yet. I live in a fairly small community though.

Every time there's a new drug, the press says "It's the worst thing ever." Absinthe: The Worst Thing Ever. Morphine: The Worst Thing Ever. Marijuana: The Worst Thing Ever. Barbiturates: The Worst Thing Ever. LSD: The Worst Thing Ever. Heroin: The Worst Thing Ever. Ts and Blues: The Worst Thing Ever. Cocaine: The Worst Thing Ever. PCP: The Worst Thing Ever. Crack: TWTE. Oxycontin: TWTE. Ecstasy: TWTE

Do you see the trend?

Drugs all have their time, none are much "worse" than any other. People will abuse ANYTHING. These things cycle. NONE are "worse" (save weed, which isn't that bad, but people say it is "stronger" when it isn't) than any other.

When is the last time you heard of someone abusing Ts and Blues? Or barbiturates? Or even Absinthe?

Some people use drugs in some ways so they have an excuse to act worse than animals. Other people use the same drug and are completely responsible with it. This, too will run it's course. For now, it is just a way to give "The War On Drugs" more power, and that is the least winnable war in history.

We had our issue with bath salts last year. It was made federally illegal some time last year. But it was made illegal here in Ohio before the feds did it.

Everyone views any drug as the "worst thing ever." Like P'Gell said they all have their time.

And the active ingredient in bath salts is comparable in lower doses to things Dr's right prescriptions to child for ADHD. Check it out: MDPV

So much agreement to this. I need a "love" button for this post.

Yes, we have bath salts here. I know a few people who have tried them and said they were awful.

We have had a few bath salts problems in my area, yes. The apothecary ran out of lavender scented bath salts a couple of times. There were riots. Someone had his face eaten. Police think he was using a new drug called Calpol.

Prescription drug abuse and marijuana are the most common problems with high school students in my area. I live in suburbia, where everyone has a prescription for everything from depression to stubbed toes. Kids just raid their parent's medicine cabinets and pop whatever they might find.

I have known a few people who have tried the bath salts, and interestingly enough, they said that they never experienced the urge to eat someone's face. It just kept them up for a few days. They even said that while the hangover was awful, the high was more euphoric and made them talk nonstop, rather than anything sinister. I wonder if there are different types out there, since every state has its own set of laws about what is and is not illegal for those type of drugs.

I would assume the chemicals are slightly different from state to state depending on how the laws are written. Just like the fake pot differs depending on which chemical formula has been made illegal in the area. The people I know that have tried them reported the same thing as you're saying - no face eating, talking a lot, really awful hangover.

I think we also have to take into account individual reactions to substances. Most people who use these bath salts probably react the way you described. However, everyone is different, and there always a few people who don't react well. I think the "face eating" case has gotten so much attention because of its extreme nature.

I don't think its a problem where I live. The first time I heard of this was when that guy got shot for eating another guys face off. My husband says he hasn't even talked to anyone or known of anyone who has used it and he is fairly popular on Facebook. (friend of a friend) All he says he knows about it is that its dangerous and that it kills the user eventually.

I thought you were talking about actual bath salts for the bath. He had to explain.

and yes I usually agree with you...
I'm sure there are people out their who can handle their bath salts or their water.. but I deal with people on these drugs and I see how quickly their minds break down and start acting as if it was their first Psychotic break... Sorry I didnt use my words correctly.. Its the worst thing ever too me too see someone who was perfectly capable loose it on this drug...
