I'm having one of those days where I feel like my replies to different questions on the forum are too negative, and maybe I should stop until I have something more positive to say. I'm wondering if other people ever feel like this too.
So, what is your attitude when answering polls? Do you start to censor yourself if you find yourself saying a lot of "I don't do/like that" or "I'm not interested in this topic, not sure why I clicked on it" type answers?
less
I don't think that there's anything wrong with being negative about a discussion topic as long as you're not attacking anyone (or their beliefs/likes/dislikes /etc) personally. My problem lies when I read people saying things like "Ew, that's disgusting and I can't believe anyone would do that." I mean, even if I were personally so disgusted by something that I just had to share, I would try to phrase it more like "that's a huge turn-off for me" or even "I find that disgusting, but..." If you're making it clear that whatever you're posting is your opinion, then I definitely won't be offended by it even if it's something like "I think that surreptitious comes off as really stupid/arrogant/stinky because..." If you're generalizing and aren't backing up what you have to say at all, then I'm generally less than impressed with negativity, though it does vary case to case.
("I think that surreptitious comes off as really arrogant because she basically just said that everyone should try and post like she does." I didn't mean that everyone has to be the same, just that we should strive for some tact and try to explain what we mean.)
