At what age did you get your first job?

Contributor: Wicked Wahine Wicked Wahine
For this poll:

Job = a place of employment that paid you a certain amount of money each week, every other week, or monthly.

So cutting grass or babysitting wouldn't count

I stated my first "real" job at 19. I hated it there, and actually hated my next 3 jobs as well.
Right now I love the jobs I have, even though they don't pay much.

My first was a Summer job @ 21, during college; I was a deputy clerk of court for the city of Cleveland - at the time minimum wage was $5.25, I think.

As many others have also said, I babysat and that was the only job my parents would let me do growing up, (at that time, you needed both their signed releases in order to work if you were under 18). So, I started babysitting at 9 for 25 cents an hour - yeah, the rents wouldn't let me earn more than that. They were extremely strict & controlling. And since I was the eldest, I had the most limitations & expectations placed on me.

I started cleaning houses at around 14. In my state, you have to be 16 to work, though, unless you're being paid "under the table" as I was at 14. When I turned 16, I went to Hardee's and didn't stay long at all. Then went to be a housekeeper at a hotel. Lots of cleaning from the job I had at 14, then to housekeeping. Lol.

I held my first official paid position when I was one month past 16. I spent the summer before that volunteering full time, and had "worked" several babysitting and tutoring gigs before that, but nothing that was both full-time and paying.

I worked at Wendy's when I was 15. I won't even eat there now, and it's been almost a decade.

19, for the Athletics Department at my college. My parents only let me do volunteer work in high school, so I don't fit the "getting paid" criteria for that work.
