Are you NERVOUS..?

Contributor: DeliciousDrip DeliciousDrip
I'm going to an open mic later with a friend that sings (she's amazing)!
Me, on the other hand..lol Not going anywhere near the mic. I'm a pretty outgoing person and stuff. I'd sing and act a fool in front of a small group of friends BUT i have stage freight.

Anybody else get nervous in front of a large crowd?

No I used to sing in a band. As did my father. So it's second nature to me. Though I havent in many years, I dont get nervous singing or preforming infront of large groups.

I'm always nervous before a presentation, last one being about 50 people. I find that if I am sufficiently prepared, I stop being nervous about 5 minutes before I have to go on.

However, if I am not prepared I am nervous up to the end and usually botch the presentation.

I write and record music privately but I don't play shows. I have fun booking them and attending them, but I'm also a very anxious person on stage. I am a VERY outgoing person, love being the center of attention, but when it comes to things I create I am very private. It's a personal process for me and while I really admire those that can share it with the world, I definitely don't have any plans to.

I'm kind of like Owl. I was in plays a lot when I was growing up, and I was never nervous to deliver lines somebody else had written. When I have to present my own material, though, I can get a little nervous, depending on the audience. I joined Toastmasters, and that's helped a lot.

I get insanely nervous! I've never had the guts to do any singing like that, but I've had to give a lot of presentations and every single time I feel like I'm about to have a heart attack, throw up, and pass out! I've tried everything to get over it, including xanax before a presentation, but nothing has ever worked. ughh, I'm feeling nervous just thinking about it!

I always get nervous, but no one seems to notice. I guess I manage it well.

I'm a nervous person in general. I HATE it, but especially around new people I get very tense and nervous and can get on stage if it's only in a fun way, not serious because I cannot sing or anything so if it's just for fun, I'll do it. My best girlifriend and I grew up together and we'd go out on the weekends with our families and sing karaoke! I did get nervous if we were singing seriously, not a funny song like "my ding-a-ling!" lOL

I use to be a super anxious little thing. I use to have panic attacks all the time and was unable a lot of the time to even attend public events. So yeah, I know how you're feeling. Yoga really helped me work through a lot of my anxiety. Visualizations and deep breathing exercises do wonders

Sort of. I dislike appearing in front of crowds, small or large, but usually any feelings of nervousness or reticence I have beforehand disappear when I get up in front of the crowd.

Odd...but I used to, like most people. Till I had to start giving lectures. Now, it does not matter if it is a room of 10 or the Astro-dome full....I give my speech and it is all the same. It is only stressful if the audience seems not to be "catching on" or reacting. If they are, it is pure bliss.

I've done open stage Karaoke in front of a large crowd, about twenty-something years ago. Just don't focus on the audience, glance around without really looking into their faces will help.

Hmm...nope, not really. I get minor butterflies in my stomach as I'm about to step up, but once I'm there I'm fine. And I can present my own work or someone else's. I do get a little more nervous afterwards, if I have to stay up at the front and answer questions or something. Especially since my disasterous speech that I had to give at the end of my speechwriting class. Everyone else finished their speeches and we all had lots of questions and comments. I finished, and you could have heard a pin drop.

Otherwise, I do have anxiety issues. I get nervous especially when I have to work or deal with someone far above me in my company. Like a few weeks ago, I was covering a shift at a different shop, and I didn't have a key, so the sales manager, whom I've met on occasion before but never really worked with, had to let me in and show me around. And then, because I'm the new kid, she did a bunch of training with me. That had me pretty nervous.
