Are you addicted to chocolate?

Contributor: M121212 M121212
So.... I came to terms yesterday with the fact that I am actually addicted to chocolate. Sure, I work in a chocolate shop so I am surrounded by a near endless supply all day long. But I was trying to take a day off of eating chocolate yesterday and it was so hard! I buckled. And I felt so much better afterwards.

Yep, definitely addicted.

I think for me it has something to do with the phenylethylalanine. Phenylethylalanine is a very interesting compound, because there are only two ways scientists have found it present in human blood streams. The first way is when people eat chocolate, and the second way is when people are in the early stages of falling in love. You know, that swoony honeymoon period. So for me, I really like that feeling and I think it's part of my chocolate addiction.

How about you? Are you a chocoholic?

I don't have solid chocolate often anymore. I know that I'll be keeping some cocoa mix in the dorm with me, though... I've found that hot chocolate is the best thing to help me perk out of a depression fit.

That's interesting. Chocolate contains quite a bit of tryptophan which is a precursor to serotonin. (You know, serotonin being that brain chemical that contributes to our "happiness.")

Yes, I would think that with the chemicals in chocolate it could be very addictive... lol

If I eat any type of candy I eat sour candy... but if I choose the sweet option I go for a creamy dark chocolate...

Mmm I used to love sour candy. Now I just eat... well, lemons and sour savory things! I am very into the combo of bitter and sweet right now, which I guess chocolate fits right into.

I *had* an addiction to chocolate. I was in love with Dove chocolate squares and I ate half a bag in one sitting on a lonely, summer day. Well, let me tell you they are not kidding when they say that the way to break a chocolate addiction is to over-indulge. I don't crave it and I don't buy it as often as I used to any more.

I've never been a big fan of chocolate, but I do indulge sometimes. Lindor Truffles are especially tasty.

It require extreme control, which only really works when I'm in the diet mind set - but it's not impossible.
Most times I do give in though.

I need to live in a world of only dark chocolate. Then I'd be forever chocolate free!

Habanero salsa is for me what chocolate seems to be for most women.

Chocolate's good, but I am more likely to grind up a little bit for a Mexican mole or other sauce than I am to just eat a chocolate bar. (I do love me some hot chocolate in the winter, though).

But I get endorphin rushes from habaneros, and if I'm caught at the wrong time of the month without any, I'll be in just as much of a mad dash to get to the grocery store as the average woman would be to get chocolate ice cream.

Chocolate is the only candy that I'll go out of my way to get. Though I have some self-control and can hold back if I need to, I usually just go ahead and grab it. I love chocolate-covered things: marshmallows, strawberries, pineapples, it's all good! (Well, maybe not ants or other bugs...)

Though I'm not crazy about chocolate milk, for some reason. I love hot chocolate, but not the cold version. It's weird.

Chocolate... I absolutely love my kit-kats (any chocolate, but those are my choice to keep around) Would I go into withdrawals without it? No. Addiction is a bit overrated.

I have serious cravings around my period and I love chocolate so, SO much, but I have no problem keeping it to a minimum and not over doing it. I wouldn't ever allow myself to have any more than one or 2 mini kit kats (2 at the very most!) each day. I dont eat chocolate daily, but I am a lover of sweets. Around my period my love always gets me kit kats and gummi bears. I let myself eat a tiny bit extra around that time, but I've always been careful to eat healthy.

I like your style. LOL

It doesn't have to be chocolate, but I do like a very itty bit of something sweet after dinner. Even coffee suffices most times. Though, honestly, it really doesn't get better than chocolate. Hershey Kisses are the devil. Chocolate provides its own satisfaction nothing in the world can compare to.
