Seriously, it seems like most of them aren't even used.
Are all of these smileys necessary?

Oh absolutely they're necessary! Yes. I vote yes. I think they're awesome and EF people's worked to make them for us.
07/08/2012
I like them. But I do think the gunfire ones and some others are just over the top.
07/08/2012
Of course they are necessary! Well, to me they are since I use just about all of them. I use the gunfire ones when I talk about the literary abomination known as the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy

I like them

Meh, they're fun so why not keep em around even if they get rare usage? ^_^
<- that one is extra necessary on a site such as this...plus it's just plain adorably pink.

They're kind of lame, but whatever.
07/08/2012
why not, it makes me giggle!
07/08/2012
I love those emoticons! The Eden designers specifically added the extra ones you've highlighted (and some others) for us to express ourselves in a fun way.
07/08/2012
They are great I love them~
07/08/2012
There is a scenario/ multiple scenarios for each one. I love'em
07/08/2012
The more the better as they say. Personally, I've wished for a couple different ones and I find some of the larger ones unnecessary, but if people use them then that's all that matters.

It's hard to convey tone on the internet. I think smiles help convey your tone if used properly. And they're cute.
If you don't like them, you don't have to use them.
At least Eden doesn't allow "Sparklies" which are HUGE sparkly pictures of puppies and kittehs and angels and babies with "affirmations" that some sites allow at the bottom of each and every post that person makes. I actually left a site once because of the preponderance of "Sparklies" in every post. It took an hour to scroll down the page!

They are absolutely necessary, I want more smileys!
@ P'Gell
I don't mind sparklies but I am glad that the EF forum doesn't include "signatures" on posts. It's just that much more to read/scroll through, and yeah, there are always some who want to write their complete history and post every photo they've taken with cellphone cam in that section.

Maybe not necessary, but they are fun. I like them all.

I don't like animated smileys or icons, but I can scroll past them. I do wish we had the option to turn all icons to their text counterpart so I could skip the ones that flash and bounce, though.

Aww, they're cute! Smileys are fun!
I still maintain that we need a coffee cup emoticon...

I like them just fine , there are many times when some of them fit quite nicely.

Oh heavens! I never thought of the darn signatures. I am never picky, but I have to agree here. I've been to simple forums like the freaking tech forum for my mom's laptop and these people have very short advice but LONG quoted crap. Lol. Sorry, but it can be frustrating to read those, plus I always end up reading them over and over thinking they're part of the person's response! Ha Ha.

Emoticons are fun here and I love that EF is so creative that they've included so many to choose from. I love when I'm looking for a way to express what I'm saying and I find an emoticon that matches. Icing on the cake. They aren't negative. I mean the only thing you could object to is not wanting to use them, so I appreciate em'.
Also, EF's forum looks so clean, smooth and simple. We have fun emoticons, but it's easy to look at and read unlike most forums with the sparklies like someone mentioned and the signatures. I like it how it is here.

A coffee cup one would be fitting! Maybe a cat one, too?
