Anyone have a "super unusual" exotic pet?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
This is a pretty amazing a diverse group. I am really thinking of those people (more then you might think) who have animals like Lions, Tigers, Bears (oh my), or giant Boa Constrictors, Jackal, full bred wolves, Foxes, Coyotes, Hawks, Chimps, Apes...etc, as pets?

If so, what is your overall experience with them?

I've never had an exotic pet. I'll stick to cats!

Nothing exotic here, just a guinea pig.

I've never had anything really exotic, I do have a bearded dragon named Puff if that counts for anything! She's super sweet...

We had a cornsnake growing up and lots of dogs and cats (my mom loves animals so much she worked at the zoo) but nothing extreme.

I've never had one, but my ex fiance's family used to own a bear. Another ex owned a raccoon...not exactly exotic, but odd.

The most "exotic" pet I've had is a chinchilla.

I always want them but then I remember that most of them don't thrive or survive in captivity.

We had two Hedgehogs--love those little guys!!

I also had a runt cow--she was 5 years old and the size of a 1 month old. I nursed a baby deer for a week, took care of my friend's foxes-and inherited them when she had to move to a smaller place. There have been many of them I have nursed but not kept.

I had a sugar glider (flying squirrel) as a kid and my twin sister had poison dart frogs. These days I have a weiner dog, hamster and cats.

ME TOO! We tried getting hedgehogs when I was really young -- my mom ordered one from the pet store lady in our area (same lady still runs the place these days too) and when he came in . . . he was fucking vicious! Agressive, angry, bad tempered, bad attitude hedgehog. LOL. My sister and I said we didn't care. We'd deal with his anger. We just wanted him so badly. My mom had paid $80 to have him sent down here and well, sadly enough, we left hedgehog-less. We never let her live that down, but I am thankful we didn't grow up with hedgehog injuries. Lol. I'd love to have me a tamed, nice one though.

Our pet store has chinchillas and I adore them! They're priced from $70-$100 though and I worry about paying that and getting an animal I don't know enough about, but I've been in the pet store playing with them on and off for the last few years. Had a friend who bought one, but didn't really take the best care of him.. Well, she did, but he was stuffed in a room with tons of other animals that could get to his cage. So I worry about my cats getting around one too, although they don't mind Hubert the hamster at all.

These days I see these photos of a baby hedgehog cuddling the owner and taking baths all the time. They look so sweet! I wonder where or how you'd go about getting a baby one that is easy going. I do love seeing those photos all over the internet though. They always make me smile.
