Anyone been up in a hot air balloon. Please describe it. Should I go? Any BAD stories???

This weekend I have a chance to go hot air balloon riding. Problem is, while it looks fun, I worry about the lack of control (ie, POWER LINES...etc) and more then that, honest, a WICKER BASKET as the only thing under my feet at 10,000 feet????? THAT is what has me terrified. If it were STEEL, I might feel a tad more confident...but a little wicker basket???? Oh my......

What has been YOUR experience????

I did it once when I was younger, but we stayed tethered to the ground. Either way, I thought it was a neat experience, and I say that if you have the chance to do it, go for it!

I've never been, but I think it could be really fun. I'd love to try it.

I've flown in one a few times. I thought it was a lot of fun!

The thing with hot air balloons is that you won't be able to fly unless the weather is pretty darn close to perfect, so you don't need to worry about weather issues. While the pilot can't control the direction of flight, he or she can control the altitude they are at, so they will be able to miss any powerlines or things of that nature. Hot air baloons always have the right of way when it comes to air traffic, so any small planes in the air will fly around you and not be in your path.

You will have to take off and land in a wide open space such as a field. Believe me, your pilot won't want to hit anything either! so they will be sure to be very cautious when it comes to safety.

I look at things from a benefit/loss postion. This basically means what can be gained and lost in an experience.

I have never been up in one and honestly I dont think I would ever go in one.

Now when looking at possibilities could I have a great time? I am sure that I could. But could I have a really bad fing time, yep.

I see compressed flamable gas a wicker basket reinforced with steel structure and a giant piece of synthetic cloth that is keeping me in the air way way up. I say no thanks, Ill be right here waiting for you when you get back.

Not to give taylor a hard time but another big reason for my I dont think so is that whole cant steer it thing and wind has a way of blowing where it wants.

Heights scare me a bit so I don't think I would probably do it. But it does look like fun if you aren't afraid of heights.

I prefer parasailing to hot air balloons, the movement is a bit too slow for my liking, but it still feels good up in the open air.

Ha, ha, that's true. There's no control over where the balloon's heading, you'll see the coordinating vehicle (responsible for picking your party up when the balloon lands), following the direction where the balloon's heading on ground level!

I've been up in one that was tethered, but I had family members that went from one place to another. There were no problems and everyone had a really good time. I would do it again if I had a chance. It was pretty cool.

Im scared to do it and I hate not having control and heights, but I will do it because I want to not regret not doing it.
