Anybody consuming Stevia instead of sugar and honey? :) Anyone growing it? :D

Maybe many of you have heard about it, that Stevia has no calories at all, and it is 3-4 times sweeter than white sugar as I recall - so W/we want to get into growing it if W/we can manage the right environment for it, but still want to go with honey bees too...

So, are you a Stevia user, or a grower too maybe?

I've been using stevia for years. Have seen videos/articles on growing it, but I'm not quite ready for that, yet.

I have found there is a LOT of variation between brands. The lower-priced, generic ones tend to have a very bitter, unpleasant aftertaste but there are some brands that are pretty good. Wisdom Naturals is my brand of choice and I don't find it to be bitter at all. They even make flavored extracts such as chocolate raspberry and toffee that are amazing in coffee.

I use the flavored stevia drops in my coffee every day, I like the toffee and chocolate ones the best. They can be a bitter if you use too much, a little goes a long way with this stuff.

Calories aren't what's bad for you in food yo. B| They are part of it - but you don't want to eat something with 0 calories. you might as well not eat it at all.
you should check out everything else that's in that shit that is awful for you.

I'll stick to no sugar at all; or that found in fruit etc.
Any artificial sweetener is bad for you because your body doesn't break it down appropriately - as it does when it's present in fruit, veggies etc etc etc.

Eh, I've tried it. I like it a lot better than other sweeteners.

Seconding this.

That said, I'm a sugar junkie and it's hard for me to stay away from sweet things. When I need to sweeten things I use Truvia which is made from Stevia. I'm in the process of weaning myself off of all types of sugars though.

In my opinion, stevia is one of the best sugar alternatives. I use Truvia, which also contains erythritol, a sugar alcohol. I would prefer to use a completely unrefined sweetener, but there isn't anything I like better, so far.

I also use organic agave nectar for some things, like pancakes. It's REALLY sweet, like stevia. A little goes a VERY long way.

As far as the other chemical artificial sweeteners, I will not touch Splenda (sucralose) because it has been found to stimulate insulin release, and I don't like Equal (aspartame/acesulfame K), so that leaves Sweet'N Low (saccharin). If I really MUST have something sweet and I can't get stevia or agave, I'll choose Sweet'N Low over the others.
