Any Dr. Who Fans? - trying to make my own Dalek!

Contributor: VioletMoonstone VioletMoonstone
My boyfriend is a huge Dr. Who fan. I've watched a lot of episodes with him and I have to admit... I think I love it! Haha. I haven't told him that though. He just thinks I'm a nice girlfriend that will watch it with him without complaint.

Anyway, I decided that I'm going to try (keyword "try") to make a Dalek for my boyfriend out of clay. It's a lot harder than I thought it would be. This is what I have so far. I still have to make the weapons, the "neck" and the "head" and paint it all up. It'll look a lot better when it's painted. Right now it's pretty rough and I'm not sure about it.... I just wanted to show it off and maybe get some feedback.

my project

This is what it's supposed to look like:

Well, here he is in all his handmade glory! I have to let him dry in a secret place in my room. It'll probably take a few days. Then I'll paint him. I had my boyfriend pick colors for my "secret project" and he chose metallic blue and silver. I didn't tell him anything. >.>

I love what you have done so far! I am sure it is really hard, and your boyfriend is one lucky man. We are HUGE fans around here, and have considered trying to make a dalek out of things we can find around here, like a paper cup body with something rounded for its head. Just in the imagination stage right now.

I look forward to seeing your finished one!!

Thanks for being so positive! I was kind of scared to show anybody. lol. There were things I wanted to do that were just impossible to do with clay and it didn't work so I just did the best I could do. I can't wait until it's dry so I can paint it. When I was making the top it made me laugh because it started to look like a penis... you know without all the details on it. LOL! I was thinking, "ok how am I going to make this hunk of clay NOT look like a penis." Haha.

Oh, don't worry - I've often thought a Dalek looked like a knobby dildo.

You did a fantastic job on that! What a fun idea! I think your bf is going to really like it. You'll have to post pictures once it's painted too. It turned out really, really good!

This morning I put a cloth over it and waited until he was ready to get his big surprise. When I pulled the cloth off (carefully!) he gasped and was so excited! He kept going on and on about how cool it is ect. He loved it and I could tell it made him really happy. He's been having a really long work week and it cheered him up a lot. Then we ate some food and watched Dr. Who, the episode where the Dalek goes upstairs. Hehe. That was fun. I'm so glad it's finally finished!

Yay thanks! =] I keep glancing at it from time to time because I'm just so glad it's finished.

The pushpins were sort of an on the spot thing. I had no idea what I was going to do but it just seemed like it would work so I just went with it.
