We used to have big family celebrations. Then, we went through a spell of losing loved ones. Over the years my side of the family became very tiny where my husband's side is quite larger. In years past, we would "holiday jump" as I would call it. Traveling all over our state and his father's (split family) just so we could make ALL the celebrations. Exhausting, but fun until we started our own family. That's when holiday travel stopped for us. Towing babies all over during Christmas just is not fun. Now, we're down to just 2 celebrations with our mom's.
The tradition I enjoy most, when we are able to make it (due to my husband's work), is the Christmas Eve Candle lit service at church. It's just a special and sentimental moment for me. We usually do Christmas with my side of the family this evening with a nice dinner so it's hit and miss if I get my candle lit service
I always factor in Christmas "loving", too. At some point, in the mix of all the chaos, it's always front and center in my mind, and will be put into action
