Is there such a thing as age-appropriate hair?

Contributor: Petite Valentine Petite Valentine
Hair is a hot topic thanks to Miley chopping it all off, Katy Perry's commitment to try every color in the Pantone catalog (#foreverawalkingpanto nepalette).

Now Christina Aguilera has added some purple streaks to her platinum blonde, but unlike the 20-something's who are lauded for their fashionista colors, MSN Now said, "That style might have been OK for "Genie in a Bottle" Christina circa 1999, but for the mom of a 4-year-old, we're thinking the look might be a little young."

She's 32 years old. She probably doesn't even have grays yet— what's wrong with dyeing her hair a fun color?

Do you believe that certain hairstyles or colors are age-restricted?

It's HER hair, not anyone else's. Who cares? And if they do, they should find better things to occupy their time.

In my opinion, how a person looks doesn't have that much to do with age...as long as your hair, hair color, and dressing style matches your appearance and personality. But of course a forty-something year old woman like me will look awfully silly if I still dress like a teenage girl and dye my hair a Shocking Pink!

I'm a 39 yr old male, and I cut my hair into a mohawk, so I say do whatever you like with your own hair, regardless of age, because it's YOUR hair.

It's your hair, it's on your head, it's really nobody else's business what you do with it. At least that's the way I see it. I think it's cool to see people of all ages expressing themselves freely.

I am 29 and just went from purple streaked to blood red. I think if someone wants to express themselves they are free to do it any way they want.

It's hair...wear it how you like it. Yes in a work place some things are more appropriate than others but that's part of the job.

I'm all for individual expression and could likely pull it off with the wild colors (since I'm mistaken for early 20's constantly), but I need an edge in job hunting, so I have to look conservative - which means I need to stick to my Dana Scully look. Employers in most businesses prefer their office staff to blend into the background rather than stand out.

I think everyone should be able to wear their hair or dress however they want. On the other hand I do think some styles or colors might not look the best on certain people or for certain people at certain ages. But just because it's not the most flattering for them doesn't mean they can't wear it. There shouldn't be any restrictions.

I don't think it should matter to anyone except the owner of the hair.

I have a three year old and my hair is chestnut brown and red. So I guess they'd dislike me as well. Oh well! Good thing I don't dye my hair for other people.

Hey, I'm there - it's the people who typecast us that's a huge part of our society's isolated aged helpless - and I'll stop there...

A woman of any age need only do what she wants with her hair - what she wants is certainly more important then what other people "think", some she doesn't even know!

What she wants is none of "their" business unless she directly asks for an opinion... Ok, I'll stop at this point with this one too...

Okkkkk, so my answer would be no except the by ones our society puts on us!

Yes. Mullets should not be worn after 40 years of age. Or before 40 years of age.

I think that it isn't a big deal but for me personally I think there is an age limit. It was just how I was raised, that when you turn a certain age there are things you shouldn't do dyeing your hair all sorts of colors are one of them.

dyeing your hair a bright primary color when you are a lot older is a little weird, but hair cuts are your choice.

I've been told the same thing. You can't do "fun" colors after 30, and you can't have long hair after 35. I call BULLSHIT.

People should be able to do what they want, but I am repeatedly stunned by how harshly others will judge them over a freakin' color.

I have waist length hair and I am 42. I also dye it with different highlights, add colored strands, etc. Do what you want--you only live once.

Besides, wasn't the first ones to have pink and blue hair the older, white haired women????

I think it's up to the owner of the hair and that is the only opinion that should count.
