I have battled acne for as long as I can remember. My acne is not horrible but I always have at least one blimish on my face. Do any of you deal with this same problem? If so, what kind of cleaners and treatments have worked for you?

Since I have over active oil glands, I deal with blemishes regularly. I found that Pernox facial scrub helps more than others for me. Just make sure to rub it in your hands first, then onto face as scrubs can be a little harsh on some people's faces. Sulfer products like Acumel work to dry up blemishes well for me. On the bright side, my dermatologist told me oily skin may give me blemishes, but I will not have wrinkles! YAY!

I have always suffered from ache on my face and back. I use cheap generic stuff from the drug store I don't remember what they are called, appearance is not something I stress over much.

Oh boy, acne has been a fun journey for me and it has mostly calmed down now. But the calming down was and still is an ongoing battle.
First, I looked at my diet. Skin is an organ, right? So it should stand to reason it will reflect when bad stuff comes in. So, stopped eating junk food (most of the time), stopped eating gluten/casein/most soy and drank a lot more water and less soda. That took care of about 80% of the cysts.
The water here is pretty hard and being close to the city, heavily chlorinated. Apparently, this drys the crap out of your skin, destroys what vitamin e you have on your skin and makes the toxins and minerals have an easier time getting in. Pass on that!
I wash my face with water that has some dissolved vitamin c powder in it and use alcohol-free rose witch hazel with vitamin e afterwards (Thayers).
Some acne isn't acne at all, but just clogged pores. So exfoliation is key - I adore the basic dissolved aspirin and honey mask. If you're oily, you need to exfoliate every day though and the Clarisonic is really, really nice, but it's a costly investment that does have a period of purging, so that's something to consider.
In terms of cleansers, Desert Essence tea tree cleanser and if you want to get indie about it, One Hand Washes The Other Black Magic soap. DE is foamy and medicinal smelling and OHWTO is really creamy (even for a bar soap!) and reminds me a bit of licorice.
In terms of treatments - sulfur. Kate Somerville's Eradikate is amazinggg and I love Nelson's Acne Gel for the lighter stuff.
Hope that helps and remember, ymmv.

The only thing that's been actually helpful for me is to take acne for what it is - a skin disease. When you have a skin disease you take it to your dermatologist. It may be costly but it's effective so you're probably going to pay less than if you try to cure it on your own.
Also: don't over-wash and over-scrub. When you remove all the protective layers from the skin your oil glands will work extra hard to replace it.

I am 25 and still have blemishes. I don't wear make up all the time but most times if I am going out, I feel uncomfortable without it.
It has been getting extremely well since I stopped being so worried about it. Every time I saw I blemish, I would tell myself it would go away, it was temporary, and that my skin was getting better...and it did. I stopped using acne facial cleaners and it helped A LOT! I use regular cleaner and I use toner too and hydrate my skin in the morning with a very light cream that exfoliates. I love it but it was really expensive.

Thanks for all the great information! I have very large pores and oily skin which is a horrible combination! I try and take good care of my skin but I just can't seem to fully stop my acne. It sucks so bad!

For isolated spots like that, witch hazel, from your local pharmacy, may prove helpful. Some of the more powerful over the counter salysalates, the stuff with 10% solution, can really help too.

I've had acne since forever. My mom says I had baby acne too, fun. I've been using Mary Kay for the last year and a half and I've finally gotten it manageable and not constant cystic acne anymore. I have very senstive skin and get clogged pores easily too so I use a homemade scrub for exfoliation and that helps prevent some of the acne too.
