I just read where people hesitate to use disposals and there are less, rather then more, being put in new or rebuilt homes. What is your take?
Do you have a "garbage disposal"? Do you use it?

No I don't, but am planning on getting one installed later this year!!

No. I used to have one in my old home but it would never work.

Thinking about it now, come spring I may start composting.
01/26/2013
I use mine, but only for veggie scraps because the water company has been requesting it. No idea why.
I've had it backup on me way too many times when putting other stuff down the drain so I just don't bother anymore. I do want to start composting next spring as well.

does the hole next to the woods count.. LOL.. we put all of our scraps in the hole next to the woods just like my great grandmother did.

I have one and we use it but I don't like them...they break often.
01/26/2013
I feed all of our scraps to the raccoons they are so cute

We don't have one in our apartment sink, it's an old house they converted so it's got a pretty old sink in it still. I still wouldn't use one anyway most likely, they just kinda creep me out.

I love my disposal.
01/26/2013
Man I wish I had one ://
01/26/2013
Couldn't live without my disposal.
01/26/2013
Yes, we use it all the time.

Me too & to any other critter that will eat them! The rest gets composted. But there are times, say when rinsing out used cat food cans for recycling, that a disposal is the most convenient for me. I've never had one break or give me problems, but I'm also very conservative in it's use.

I have one and use it. We dont use it to get rid of food scraps, that is not what they are for. But we wash our dishes on the side of the sink with the disposal, and they run the disposal to clear out what little bits of food went down the drain.
As for more or less being installed into home. I used to install on in every home we built. 100's a year. They are still a standard feature on every home around here.

I don't have a disposal.

I don't have a disposal but I use to and I used it all the time but you need to cut up a lemon and put it down there so it doesn't smell, just a little tip
01/26/2013
i use it
01/26/2013
I have one, and use it sometimes. I don't use it for big food scraps, like married with children was saying, but for smaller things.
01/26/2013
Don't have one.
01/26/2013
We currently have one. We have lived in a places without them and I prefer to have it. We are careful with what we put in it. No fatty or greasey things.

I have a disposal but don't use it, I use a drain strainer to catch all the tiny food scraps; I do run the disposal every once in a while to remove the gooey stuff that's stuck down there.

I don't have one, but I'd definitely use it if I did.

The raccoons around here want liquor and cigarettes, they aren't satisfied with scraps.
