'Pure Romance' party invite... Should I go?

Contributor: Ryuson Ryuson
I just got an invitation to go to a 'Pure Romance' party by a few people from my highschool graduating class... The problem is that I know there are going to be lubes with parabens, jelly toys, and lots of ignorant ladies giggling. I KNOW that I will know more about the products than the person hosting it, but on the other hand I would love to talk toys with people who want to listen... So, Eden, should I go and help educate them or will it just be stupid, giggling 19 year olds?

(The person who invited me has about 4 brain cells, 4 SUPER DUPER religious people ((I myself am religious, but they are the 'I hate gay rights' kind of religious)), a weird lady who REALLY likes anime, and this layed back tomboy who just graduated... And about 10 people I don't know who might really like toys?)

I've gone to them and end up annoyed. Even before I knew as much as I do now I knew more than the person hosting. I was literally telling people it was overpriced junk and they continued to giggle and buy jelly crap.

If you think you may be able to get through to them, it might be worth it. Odds are probably not in your favor for that happening.

I would go, but I'm a total whore for Eden and I shamelessly promote regardless of where I am. I even told the girls at my local brick and mortar about Eden. For fun, you could take some of your luxury toys with you to show off.

I like Stormy's suggestion. Those people will be doing oohs and ahhs over your high end toys!

I would go, well if I could be invited. lol

Look at it like this, if you get through to one person and help them make a more informed decision about buying a toy, you are doing better than the host of the party. I would take some affiliate flyers with my code on them and pass them out as a way to introduce them to something better.

Go, you can always leave if you get too frustrated. Some of them might be interested in listening, too. Make sure to tell them all your partner code, too haha.

The social experience could be fun--depending on how close you are with the people. I go when a friend has a party--just because we have been friends for so long and I know that products aside, I will have fun. I also have talked to my friends and let them know I will probably not buy anything or if I do it will be very small due to my affiliate with EF.

Keep in mind if you go, the hostess is just trying to do her job--she may not know better about the materials and is paying her bills with the commissions, the same as any sales person. She deserves respect and courtesy, but if you could talk to her privately and let her know there are better materials and items available, she may be able to revise her kit for future parties. The girl that does my friends parties has added more silicone and plastic items instead of the jellies. She has also added a note about allergens in the lubes, etc.

I do shamelessly bring my affiliate flyers with my code and give them to everyone. And brag about my collection to those who I do not mind knowing. And talk non-stop about how I got 'insert toy name' free for reviewing and being part of the site. And .....you get the picture.

Take some affiliate flyers with you, but try to be polite and subtle about it -- maybe pass them out one person at a time like you're letting them in on a secret. You can ask the presenter leading questions about the safety of jelly, using a condom with porous materials, etc., but overpaying for one jelly toy that breaks in a month is hardly going to be the worst mistake a person ever makes in their sex life, so don't go if you're going to feel compelled to protect everyone from themselves and then be frustrated by it.

Totally agree here.

If you try to "take the show" you'll probably end up hurting your friend's feelings. Unless you're ready to burn that bridge, I wouldn't push too much. Now, AFTERWARD, get a hold of the people you meet there and get them your affiliate info (if you have it) or just direct them to EF.

I find EF is enough for me. I like the community here, and especially the option for anonymity.
